💯🤥 Truth and Lies 🤥💯

The publication last week of Big Little Truths by @lianemoriarty_official - the sequel to Big Little Lies - inspired me to do a truth and lies book titles post! Came up with quite a few. Interestingly the genres for the truth books vary, while almost all the lies books are thrillers!

TRUTH and other Hidden Things by @leagellerauthor
TRUE Biz by @photonovic
The TRUE Love Experiment by @christinalauren
Twenty One TRUTHS About Love by @matthewdicks
One TRUE Thing by @annaqwrites
The TRUTH According to Us by @anniebarrowsauthor
Plain TRUTH by @jodipicoult
TRUE Crime Story by @knobbth
Nothing But the TRUTH by @hellohollyjames

Listen For the LIE by @amytintera
Everyone Is LYING to You by @jopiazzaauthor
First LIE Wins by @ashleyelston
Party of LIARS by @kelseycoxwriter
The LIES I Tell by @julieclarkauthor
The Good LIAR by @catherinemckenzieauthor
The Greatest LIE of All by @jilliancantor
The LYING Game by @ruthwarewriter
The LIES That Bind by @emilygiffinauthor

How many of these have you read? Have you read more of the truth books or more of the lies books?

True Crime Story-Joseph Knox
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My first book of the year was a fast-paced thriller based in Manchester. Perfect for a dark, gloomy winter read. I found it particularly interesting as I went to uni in Manchester and could picture all the places they were talking about and being a student in the city. Interesting format by pretending to include the author in the narrative. 19 year old Zoe Nolan goes missing, told from interviews of her nearest and dearest at the time. Read in Les Arc, France

🕵🏻‍♀️☠️✍️ Mysteries/Thrillers About Authors and Books ✍️☠️🕵🏻‍♀️

Last week I did a post on romances about authors, and @michelereader1 suggested in the comments that I do one about mysteries/thrillers about authors. She specifically suggested one about authors stealing’s plots but I decided to broaden it a little more to include authors solving or committing crimes or just generally caught up in them. Anyway, I came up with enough that I’m starting to think writers just love writing about writers, regardless of genre!

Here’s what I came up with:
The Plot by @jeanhanff
True Crime Story by @knobbth
The Ghostwriter by @julieclarkauthor
The Thirteenth Tale by @d_setterfield1960
The Accident by @chris.pavone
The Author Weekend by @laurazigman
The Main Character by @jaclyngoldis
Yellowface by RF Kuang
Queens of Crime by @authormariebenedict
The Ending Writes Itself by @evelynclarkewrites
The Fiction Writer by @jilliancantor
The Weight of Lies by Emily Carpenter
Every Time I Go on Vacation Someone Dies by @catherinemckenzieauthor
Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone by @stevensonexperience
The Author’s Guide to Murder by @authorbeatriz @laurenwillig @karenwhitewrite
Finlay Donovan Is Killing It by @ellecosimano

I’ve read all of these but one, can you guess which one? Any other books you’d recommend that fall into this category? Or, suggest any other random niche topic or sub genre and maybe I’ll do a future post about it!

This wasn’t my idea, like AT ALL. I merely adopted this great trend after watching it get passed around the internet like an emotional support sourdough starter. Credit goes to @hum.litt, who got it from @melissaleggelibri , who got it from @adrenalibri . I’m simply respecting the ancient internet tradition of “ooh, mine now,” by doing my part and keeping the ecosystem alive. I’m the equivalent of the latest raccoon digging through the content dumpster. ❤️ #bookstagram #readreadread #booksbooksbooks #history

One pre-order, one gift, and some books that have just randomly turned up at my house 🤷‍♀️😂 Is it bad when the postman hands you yet another book shaped parcel and says "You keep me in a job"

What if the “truth” wasn’t as clear as it seemed?

Back in 2023, I picked up this book and it sparked my reading fire back inside of me.

Here is a story that combines true crime, fiction, and investigative journalism all in one. When a college student goes missing after a party, the case unfolds through interviews, evidence, and conflicting perspectives—making you feel like you’re piecing it together yourself.

This isn’t your typical crime novel. It’s layered, immersive, and at times unsettling in the best way. Just when you think you have it figured out… you don’t.

If you love true crime vibes with a twist and stories that make you question everything, this one is worth the read.

Have you ever read a book that felt this real?

I love the quote - You should put yourself in rooms with people who inspire you 🩷 That is exactly what I aim to do.

I’m very lucky that a huge part of my job is spending time chatting to authors, being the vehicle bringing readers and writers together and sitting in awe listening to authors talk about their work! I’m one lucky girl!

If you could choose an author to be in ‘the room’ - who would it be? Let’s chat below ⬇️ and maybe even tag them to give them a hint about attending one of our events 😝
