Saman means “together” in Icelandic. The album title refers to the joining of two of my main instruments - the voice and cello. I’ve always hid my voice in amongst the cello weaving on my records, but on Saman it got to take slightly more prominent role.

It will be lovely to listen to Saman together this Thursday!

Caochan by @joshua__sabin is out now. Limited CD available on @bandcamp. Link in bio.

A meditation on landscape and deep time, the album is built around five poems by Nan Shepherd, author of The Living Mountain, one of the most influential books on the natural world. Every change of note lands on a syllable, and the melodies follow the cadence of the spoken word.

Sabin played and recorded everything himself, including bowed cymbals, cello, chanter, pedal organ, concertina, low-D whistle, bodhran, saxophone and rocks, then reshaped the recordings into layered textures and hybrid tones.

Poems: ‘Real Presence’, ‘Underground’, ‘Achilitbuie’, ‘Singing Burn’ and ‘Summit of Corrie Etchachan’.

I am beyond excited about the upcoming release of This Will Be Us and the release concert with the DSO at the Berlin Philharmonic this month!

To countdown, I’ll be doing a series of listening events, both online and in person, where we will listen to my previous solo releases. I’m inviting anyone who’s interested to sit and listen with me and I will have the chat open for questions and thoughts. It’s a free event and open for anyone! In the spirit of shared listening, if people are interested and this format is exciting for us, I’m planning on continuing the listening events, so we can listen to exciting albums together. Kind of like an “album club”.

NOTON is pleased to announce 12 Conversations, a new collaborative album by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto, arriving 18 September 2026.

Recorded during the same sessions that gave rise to Sakamoto’s final solo album, 12, these musical exchanges were later shaped into a work of their own. Conceived as the continuation of an artistic dialogue extending beyond the physical, 12 Conversations honours Sakamoto’s wish that these encounters should exist beyond the archive, offering an enduring testament to one of contemporary music’s most revered collaborations.
