SEOUL
we touched on this topic for the first time 2 years ago, when we released >Konichiwa< from our previous record GROWTH.
I am still very grateful for everything that I learned through that song, how emotional every KOJI song makes me and especially how it introduced asian kids to our crowd. Every other show I would meet someone who came out because of that song and have a meaningful conversation with them.

While Konichiwa was very angry and a >biting-back-song<, SEOUL is much more displaying an internal process. (and still a bit angry haha)
Itā€˜s about being asian in a western country, what stereotypes you are given and which ones you internalize after a while. And most importantly, how you break away from them and learn to appreciate your body and culture.
It feels much more complicated than it sounds I guess.

We want to thank everyone who came out for the music video shooting, it was a truly moving and special day.
The process alone of reaching out to colleagues, rather distant friends, explain the idea and song to them and how EVERY person instantly said yes, took the time and went through 300 takes that day, was simply amazing.
thank you:

I also want to give a big shout out to the rest of the band, Martin, Christoph and Julius for stepping back and allowing this release to be centered a bit more around me. We are a band and I love everything about it.

In late January, Neil Young issued an ultimatum to @spotify in response to @joeroganexperience’s willful platforming of vaccine misinformation—resulting in @neilyoungarchives catalog’s swift takedown from the streaming service. His critique quickly snowballed, with other notable artists removing their own music in protest of Spotify’s profit off Rogan’s message via an exclusive, $100 million-dollar deal—including @jonimitchell, Nils Lofgren, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, and @indiaarie (who significantly noted Rogan’s ā€œlanguage around raceā€). Music fans en masse showed their support, opting to #DeleteSpotify and contributing to a company market loss reported between $2.1 billion to $4 billion—meaning an estimated $1 billion plummet in net worth for founder and CEO Daniel Ek due to his stake in the company’s shares.

In their own words for SPIN, eight artists and one record label share perspectives on the many issues at Spotifyāž”ļø

We chatted with @altpress 🄰

ā€œArtists are often asked to give up a lot, and that’s not how anyone comes to music. Music is a thing that gives to you. When you start to interface with the industry and capitalism, you sacrifice a lot of your wholeness, and that’s just so violent. It’s just so rare to be in a space that’s about music, but anti-capitalist and not about competition but about community. That’s what resonates with anyone who ever fell in love with music—the way you’re able to inhabit yourself and the presence you’re given through music. That’s what Get Better does, and that uncompromising nature is why I wanted to be a part of it. I’m so proud to be in this community. It goes beyond being a label—it’s a community.ā€ - Koji
