In July, I had the great pleasure to graduate in Photography at the KABK, presenting my visual investigation “Carbon Migration”.

As human and climate crises unfold one after another, have we become so disillusioned that all we can do is choose between various harms?
Can the urgency of reducing global warming justify potentially damaging industrial technologies?

“Carbon migration” is the scientific term describing the unpredictable movement of liquid CO₂ in the geological subsoil beneath the seabed. It refers to one of the ecological risks of the industrial process of injecting CO2 emissions kilometers deep under the oceans, beneath the seabed, to store it away from the atmosphere.
After being captured at industrial sites, CO₂ is transported by ship and pipeline to the injection site, often former gas or oil fields that have been emptied after extraction and converted into underground reservoirs.
Under the North Sea, several projects are currently being developed and expected to operate by 2026, such as  “Porthos”, 20 km offshore from Rotterdam. However, the public remains largely uninformed about these projects and their potential consequences for the environment, including the possible acceleration of climate change due to potential CO₂ leaks and ocean acidification.

Through photo-lithographic prints, a video essay and a sculptural installation, I explore the ambiguities of this techno-fix to open up a public discussion.
What are the consequences of this new form of geoengineering, transforming pollution into a new commodity of globalisation, and operating an industrial turnaround, from resource extractivism to a new geological “injectivism”?
