I spent the weekend in Mississippi covering Mizzou Football vs Ole Miss! It was a jam packed weekend full of content and excitement!

On Saturday, I was in charge of building and scripting full game highlights for the 10P broadcast. Utilizing the skills from my internship this summer, I built a highlight that focused on the key elements of the game such as run defense, red zone offense and special teams. I added and researched relevant stats that told the story beyond the plays!

Additionally, I did a live shot for the 6P show on Friday! I built a segment that highlighted both teams’ rushing success by cutting video, sound and scripting an informational and fun segment.

Lastly, I was able to improve my video skills with my DSLR camera, creating unique, cinematic coverage from Oxford! I captured footage both at the Grove and Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, giving our audience a unique look at the game environment.

Special thanks to Bella Morgan, my co-reporter all weekend long, for her hard work and excellent reporting!

As always, I accept any and all feedback on my work!

Graduate student J. Thomas Taylor captured this photo of the Hickman High School Kewpie with Ella Kingsbury, 6, during halftime Friday at Rock Bridge High School. Kingsbury was a Kewpie junior cheerleader for the evening. Hickman head coach Justin Conyers felt all of the emotion come to him while talking about the end of his son Kason’s high school career this year.

Today’s Providence Bowl between Hickman and Rock Bridge is their last together as player and coach.

Coaches plan to attack the year one week at a time, but the final moment together at the end of this season has crossed Justin’s mind more than once.

Hear him talk about sharing the field with his kid from youth to now in this clip, and catch the full story now up on KOMU!

Last Friday night, I had the pleasure of reporting for @komusports in Hallsville for #fridaynightfever. 4-Star Lineman Liam Davis and Hallsville defeated Osage 36-27. Revenge for the playoff loss the season before!

Justin Conyers never forced his son to play for him, and he never had to.

Hickman’s head coach says he told his son when the truck was leaving in the morning, and Kason hasn’t missed that truck since middle school.

Kason scored four touchdowns in the first half on his senior night and will play his cross-town rival in Rock Bridge Friday. Stay tuned to catch he and his dad’s story on KOMU Friday through the day!

I sat down with Kason Conyers during his last season of high school football.

As a former coach’s son in Columbia, I talked to him about the dynamic of riding to school, working out with, and playing under the same person.

Every family is different, but the extra time at the facility, the dinner conversations about practice, and the overlapping roles of player and son are things any coach’s kid can relate to.

Catch the story of Justin and Kason Conyers in their final season together tomorrow on KOMU!

Hickman head football coach Justin Conyers is in his last season with his son, Kason, on the sidelines.

While reflecting on how having a coach and son under the same room impacts the whole family, he gave his wife Jessi her flowers for supporting him and their player.

Hickman plays their biggest rival, the Rock Bridge Bruins, in a cross-town matchup Friday. Follow to catch the full story of a coach and his son this weekend!
