Let's recap a great night in Great Neck last night

So last week i said that this Food Fest from the @sephardicbetmidrash and the Mashadi community was something I look forward to every year.

And it did not dissapoint.

I have to say one thing right off the bat. The Great Neck Persian community is one that is extremely warm, giving and friendly. They have such good and positive energy. Always happy, always smiling. It really makes everyone feel welcomed. Many people came up to say they love the group and appreciate what we do here and it was very kind and genuine to hear that. But I have a bone to pick with you, which I'll get to later :)

First, to this event. As you know with Kosherfest long gone, KFWE only for trade and KosherPalooza skipping a year, it's now rare to get a ballroom full of foodies and compadres, so right there, it was great to see.

So this is the 3rd year I've been here and I have to say, the organizers are genius. It's not so easy to get hundreds of people out on a weeknight. And ordinarily if you told them, come for a night out to hear a speech, not sure how many you would get.

But give them a foodfest of delicious food from a half dozen vendors before and after, and they will come. That's not to say everyone wouldn't come anyway to hear an hour speech from Rabbi Shlomo Farhi - one of the most charismatic, enjoyable and relatable speakers on the circuit. And not because he gave me a shout out for the second year in a row :)

But it was a fun evening of food and friends. And there have been times where that wasn't always a given. Looking forward to next year already.

When everything felt uncertain and Shirley’s father was sick, Fountain of Kindness didn’t just help once… they kept showing up. Phone calls just to check in. Texts asking how she was holding up. Gifts that arrived on holidays reminding her she wasn’t alone in any of it.
That kind of care doesn’t just support you, it carries you.

Forever grateful for the hearts that choose to love people through their hardest season. 🤍

NYC: Street Set I

One day in New York, flown in especially to shoot the biggest event in the city at Carnegie Hall.

On Wednesday I managed a brief stroll, with my vintage camera and 40mm lens, shooting in grainy black and white.

No pre-planned photo ops, just whatever my eye was drawn to. Perhaps cliched, perhaps not, no rhyme or reason, just vignettes of things I noticed.

There’s an indescribable magic about New York. The long streets and avenues, the classic signage, the characters on the streets, the thick snow, the hustle and bustle… it’s a film set in every direction.

Here’s ‘Street Set I’, a collection of 9 shots taken in one brief afternoon in a gem of a city.

Climate and Weather:
Miami's tropical climate means hot and humid summers, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. While the winters are mild, hurricane season (June to November) poses a potential risk.

Job Market and Economy:
Miami boasts a diverse economy with opportunities in tourism, hospitality, finance, healthcare, and technology. However, the job market can be competitive. Research your industry and ensure ample opportunities exist before relocating.

Transportation and Traffic:
Traffic in Miami can be notorious, especially during peak hours. Public transportation options exist but may not be as extensive as in other major cities. Consider your commute and factor in the potential for traffic congestion when choosing a place to live.

Culture and Lifestyle:
Miami's vibrant culture is a melting pot of influences from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Embrace the diversity and be prepared for a fast-paced, energetic lifestyle. If you prefer a quieter, slower-paced environment, explore neighborhoods outside the city center.

Housing Options:
Miami offers various housing options, from high-rise condos in downtown to single-family homes in suburban areas. Research different neighborhoods and consider factors like proximity to work, schools, and amenities when choosing a place to live.

Language and Communication:
While English is widely spoken in Miami, Spanish is also prevalent, especially in certain neighborhoods. Being bilingual or having some Spanish proficiency can be beneficial in navigating daily life and interacting with the local community.
