•Washington DC Recap• 💚💜👑 Hey everyone! I know it’s been several months since I officially passed down the title and crowned our wonderful new queen, Mia Stewart, but looking back through my camera roll, I couldn’t let this year pass without giving my Washington, D.C. trip the love it deserves. Representing Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival at Washington Mardi Gras was easily one of the greatest highlights of my entire reign, and it all kicked off right here with Day 1: We went wheels up from Baton Rouge straight to the nation’s capital, landing and checking in at the Washington Hilton. We started the week off in true royal fashion with an official Welcome Toast in the hotel lobby alongside King Gray Stream and Queen Sarah Heebe ✨👑, followed by an unforgettable dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steak House to wrap up our first evening together. Carrying a piece of home with me into Washington, D.C. was a dream from the second our plane touched down. Day 2 on Capitol Hill coming up next! ✈️🇺🇸💜💛💚

This year was truly one of the best in my life. I wouldn’t trade it for the world, and I am endlessly grateful to God and my village for making this opportunity a reality. Just one year ago, I was about to be officially crowned as Miss Creole Gumbo, and I didn’t know where this year would take me, but it has led to over 72 events across nearly 11,600 miles, endless memories, and a heart filled with so much gratitude and pride to have been your representative this year. 🥹🖤🥘✨ I am honored to say that I exceeded my own expectations of what this year would bring. I had the honor of representing Jefferson Parish in Washington DC for the Mystic Krewe of Louisianians Washington Mardi Gras Ball, was our first top 10 finalist at the LAFF Queen’s contest in nearly 40 years, and fell in love with this community over and over again with every person that I met. It has truly been an honor to wear this banner across my chest, as it signifies decades of tradition, history, love, community, and absolute passion for the mission that Monsignor Luminais started. 🥹🖤🥘✨ To my rhinestone sisters: I have made some of my absolute best friends through being a festival queen, and you all have uplifted and inspired me so much throughout my reign; I am grateful for every laugh, sleepover, side-quest, line-dance, and long car ride, every strawberry picked and orange peeled, every oyster shucked or tossed, every questionable animal held, and every eating contest, as well as every bonfire built, craft decorated, flower thrown, and duck call blown, even if we’re doing it more for the laughs than any actual talent. I hope that you were just as excited to learn about ALL things gumbo as I was to learn about your communities and traditions. I know you will all absolutely embrace Harley as she begins this journey, and I am so excited to experience your events through her eyes this year. 😚🖤🥘✨🎡🕺🎶 Officially signing off, Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

September 26th & 27th, 2026! My final weekend as Miss Creole Gumbo was spent celebrating Louisiana’s sweetest commodity and the reign of the 82nd Queen Sugar! We began our day with a tour of a local sugarcane farm, complete with chewing cane samples, tractor photos, and LOTS of cane field exploration! We then enjoyed a Raising Canes party in the Hi Sugar Suite, where Olivia’s travel table was on display, before getting ready for the 83rd Queen Sugar Coronation and Ball! On Sunday morning, we enjoyed a beautiful Mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, followed by the annual Sugarcane Festival Parade through New Iberia. 💚🚜🤍🎋✨ Some of the sweetest girls I know competed for the honor of representing the Louisiana Sugarcane Festival, and I am so excited to congratulate Miss Iberville Parish, Cadence, on the beginning of what I know will be a beautiful reign as Queen Sugar! After traveling with you the last few months in your parish role, I know that you truly embody everything that a festival queen should be, and I cannot wait to watch your reign unfold! 💚🚜🤍🎋✨ Liv, thank you so much for being such a sweet friend to me throughout our year together. I couldn’t imagine spending my last weekend celebrating anyone else. You are truly a ball of energy and the breath of fresh air that we never knew we needed; you have made such an impact on my life this year, and I am so grateful the festival world gave me you, my girl!! 💚🚜🤍🎋✨ Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

September 20th, 2026! This Gumbo Queen rocked the cradle at the 9th Annual Petite Bijoux Day Events and Pageant! ☺️🖤🥘✨🩷👣🩵 The Petite Bijoux Project raises funds and awareness for the Tiny Jewels who were born before they were due and had to live in the NICU as their development continued. This project and its mission is so close to my heart, and I had the honor of representing them twice; watching sweet Ali reign this year felt so full-circle, as I was Miss Petite Bijoux when we met! ☺️🖤🥘✨🩷👣🩵 Ali, you have done such a phenomenal job representing the Petite Bijoux Project, and I could not imagine another woman so dedicated to serving not only her community, but those around it. You are a fierce advocate for others, passionate about what is important to you, and such a supportive, hilarious, and caring friend. I will forever be in awe of you, my combat medic and future doctor!! Thank you so much for the invitation to celebrate your reign and welcome in the new royalty!! ☺️🖤🥘✨🩷👣🩵 Joyce, I am so excited for you to experience being a part of the Petite Bijoux Project as it’s Miss Queen this year! You have done a beautiful job representing the Bon Mange’ Festival this year, and I know the Tiny Jewels are just as lucky to have you as their newest advocate! Congratulations to you and your court on the start of a beautiful reign! ☺️🖤🥘✨🩷👣🩵 Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

September 19th, 2026! One of my favorite foods is my mom’s Chicken and Andouille Gumbo, so it was only right that this Gumbo Queen spent her day in St. John the Baptist Parish celebrating Jade, Mikayla, and all things ANDOUILLE!! ☺️🖤🥘✨🌭💙🐊 We started our morning off at Cajun Pride Swamp Tours for a fun and educational excursion into local wetlands. While there, we saw so many alligators, raccoons, hogs, and other wildlife, and even got to hold a young alligator! Our next stop was Jacob’s World-Famous Andouille, where we were treated to delicious andouille snacks and got to see (and smell!) their smokehouses up close! ☺️🖤🥘✨🐷💙🐊 Next was a delicious lunch of salad, pasta, chicken, and fries at Petra’s, before a shopping trip at Roussel’s Fine Jewelry and Gifts! We relaxed and freshened up at the Hampton Inn in Laplace before attending the 2026 Miss and Teen Andouille Pageant! Congratulations to Queen Sanii and Teen D’ymond on the start of what I know will be a wonderful year of travels and memories! ☺️🖤🥘✨🐷💙💎👑 Jade, thank you so much for the invitation to celebrate you and Mikayla’s beautiful reigns! I had an absolute blast and am so grateful for our friendships formed this year. I love you both so much and cannot wait to see what your futures hold! ☺️🖤🥘✨🐷💙 Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

September 12th, 2026! Where the Gumbo Pot is piping hot and the roux is a rich deep color stands a festival that has been warming our hearts since 1973. And for our first official event of the 2026 Gumbo Festival, I had the honor of officially crowning my successor, Harley La, as Miss Creole Gumbo 2026. We welcomed twenty visiting queens to celebrate the end of my reign and the beginning of Harley’s with an evening full of music, dancing, and GUMBO galore!! ☺️🖤🥘✨🕺🎶🎉💋 To my girls, family, friends, OLPS parishioners, and Westwego community members who attended, thank you from the bottom of my heart for choosing to spend such a busy weekend with us. To those who have spent the year with us and cheered us on from afar, thank you as well. And especially to our board - thank you for everything you have done for us this year, and for everything you do to keep these valued traditions alive. We truly appreciate all of the love and support that you continue to pour into us; YOU have truly made Poncho and I’s reign what it was, and we will be forever grateful. A much longer post is to come after my travels, but for now, my heart is so full! 🥹🖤🥘✨ Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

September 9th, 2026! I spent a bittersweet Wednesday evening attending my last Gumbo Festival General Membership Meeting as the reigning Miss Creole Gumbo. We discussed volunteer duties for the festival, progress on committee tasks that were underway, and final preparations for our 2026 Coronation Ball. September 5th & 6th, 2026! For 91 years, the communities of Morgan City, Patterson, and Berwick come together for a Labor Day weekend full of music, local vendors, amazing food, and a celebration of ALL things Shrimp & Petroleum! This year, I had the absolute honor of spending the weekend with the 91st Shrimp & Petroleum Festival Queen, Isabelle, and her court! ☺️🖤🥘✨🦐🩵 We began our Saturday morning at the Cajun Coast Visitors Center, where we were officially welcomed to the festival by each of the tri-city mayors and were even serenaded by the sweet Mayor of Patterson! We explored the exhibits and took plenty of photos before making our way to the authentic drilling rig “Mr. Charlie” and Diving Museum, where we learned about oil rig history and daily life. ☺️🖤🥘✨🦐🩵 We settled into a sweet afternoon, watching the Children’s Parade and visiting the local Artist Guild Art Show before a delicious lunch at Cafe JoJo’s Bistro, the official ribbon cutting for the festival Children’s Village in Lawrence Park, and exploring the festival! After a fast-paced scavenger hunt and ice cream in the park, we were treated to a delicious shrimp boil at the St. Mary Golf & Country Club before heading back to the festival to enjoy the band! ☺️🖤🥘✨🦐🩵 Sunday morning began bright and early with a beautiful Mass in Lawrence Park, followed by the annual Blessing of the Fleet and Boat Parade, one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have ever been a part of. We then had a coffee break before heading to the Visiting Queens Floats for the street parade! It was a beautiful weekend spent in such a vibrant community! Thank you to the Shrimp & Petroleum Festival Board for the invitation and making the weekend unforgettable! ☺️🖤🥘✨🦐🩵 Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

August 30th, 2026! A bittersweet “see-you-later” was said to two of my favorite gators as we welcomed in the 2026 Alligator Festival Queens! Jenna, you have truly become one of my closest friends over the last year; saying farewell to weekly travels with you was hard, but I know that you have such a bright future ahead, and I cannot wait until we’re doctors together! To 2026 Queen Kacey and Teen Elle, I am SO excited to watch your beautiful reigns unfold; they couldn’t have picked anyone more deserving of the job. Chomps and kisses, my girls!! 🥹🖤🥘✨🐊💚 Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard

August 29th, 2026! This Gumbo Queen had the honor of celebrating the beautiful reign of 90th Shrimp & Petroleum Queen Charlie Ann as she closed out her year and crowned Queen 91! We began the evening with a social and toast in honor of Charlie Ann and her king, followed by the coronation of 91st Queen, Isabelle Hernandez, a formal train and mantle presentation of the visiting royalty, and one of the most fun formal balls I have ever attended! We spent the night and then attended the sweetest brunch in Charlie Ann’s honor! ☺️🖤🥘✨🦐🛢️ Thank you so much to the Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival Board for the invitation and hospitality, and to Charlie Ann, Ms. Joellen, and Mr. David for an incredible year traveling together. ☺️🖤🥘✨🦐🛢️ Miss Creole Gumbo 2025 Kristen Elizabeth Richard
