“The Dress Code” is an article written and produced by ME “Ian Evans” @_ian_evans (2008), featuring a multi-campus photoshoot on HBCU student fashion. It was published in the September 2008 First Semester Issue of “The Black Collegian Magazine”. The feature highlighted style and professionalism at institutions including Tuskegee University, Morehouse College, Grambling State University, FAMU, Howard University, and Clark Atlanta University. Information on the article can be found via academic databases or HBCU library archives.

I pitched this article to various publications in 2007/2008 and The Editor In Chief Preston Edwards of The Black Collegian said “Write It” and gave me full creative control from the photographers, students showcased and layout. My goal was to showcase QUALITY in all shades! Also when getting the photographers I wanted to make sure when you looked at the photos you KNEW the respective institutions. I always loved FAMU and how they made their school colors POP. I was able to feature the “Major” Siblings Justin at Morehouse and Megan at Tuskegee to have Brother and Sister in the same article. Also @nic.beem of Grambling State University who I felt was one of the best dressed Men I knew then and still to this day. Dara Eskridge my photographer at Tuskegee made an excellent choice in how she made sure White Hall Clocktower was visible from the Kellogg Center Courtyard. Also looking back having two “Mr. Tuskegee’s” @lifeissmooth_31 and @yaboyy_b in the same shot. Then respect to how much credit and clout I got for making sure CAU was incorporated into the fold with @lyricmijiflood and @__mr.clarke__ . The talks of my Alma Mater’s decision to uphold a campuswide dress code and decorum that harkens back to the olden days and golden days of Tuskegee Institute. I wanted to post this article which is in line and aligned with what The University expects.
