We thought we’d find one universal “cold plunge brain.”

But we found the opposite.

Some of the brains shifted toward slower activity - calm, inward, downregulated.

The others shifted toward faster activity - alert, focused, task-ready.

And across the cohort, those shifts resulted in greater hemispheric symmetry - a more balanced distribution of activity between the two sides of the brain.

Humans have been using nature-based regulation for thousands of years.

A 3-minute plunge is a controlled stressor, challenging the nervous system to adapt in the direction it needs.

What’s fascinating is that reorganization seems entirely dependent on the individual’s starting state.

Perhaps part of the reason why research has produced such variable results is because relatively little work has looked at the brain’s immediate response.

If you’re an avid plunger - or thinking about starting - consider: When are you plunging, what state are you starting in, and what do you want from it: activation and focus, or calm and recovery?

Maybe the “best” way to plunge depends less on a universal protocol and more on where your system is - and where you want it to go.

Thank you to @thechillpod.co & @krisricewellness for partnering with us to push the science forward 🧊 🧠

Regulation isn’t always ice and impact. Sometimes it’s breathwork on the couch with a comfort that anchors you. Five minutes of presence can shift more than you think.

As the year comes to a close, I’m holding so much gratitude for the voices, stories, and wisdom that shaped this space.

These conversations reminded us that growth doesn’t happen in isolation.
It happens through listening, learning, and being willing to see ourselves reflected in others.

Glow Up, Gyrl is more than a podcast. It’s a community rooted in honesty, depth, and becoming with intention.

Thank you to every guest, listener, and supporter who made this year what it was.

Every founder wants certainty. The real growth happens when you learn to move without it.

For Kris Rice, the word that defines her journey is trust. Trusting herself. Trusting what is coming next. Trusting that something better is ahead even when she cannot see it yet. That kind of trust shifts everything because it keeps you moving instead of clinging to what feels familiar.

The doorway debate is real: I don’t want to plunge… but I know I’ll feel better when I do.
A couple minutes, slow exhales, and the noise in my head starts to fall away.
That’s the magic; not the cold, but what follows.

Founders ignore their best ideas because they feel too wild, too big, or too early. That is usually the sign that they matter.

Kris Rice reminds us that the ideas we cannot shake are not random. They pull at us for a reason. Whether they become a business or simply something that fills you up, those sparks are worth paying attention to. They point you toward the work you are meant to do.

Every founder hits that moment when the thing you wanted to succeed is not the thing that is meant to grow.

Kris Rice tried to juggle a full time job, a passion project, and a new idea that would not stop nudging her forward. The real shift happened when she stopped forcing the old path and followed the one with momentum. Letting go was hard, but it opened the door to what became ChillPod.
