The house had a visitor this week who got us talking about European football culture in Asia. What followed was this.

A young creative from Hong Kong stopped by earlier in the week and the conversation found its way, as it tends to in here, from design culture to football culture and back again. Somewhere in the middle of it, Bayern Munich’s Audi Summer Tour came up. The namesets they wore for their pre-season matches across Asia earlier this summer. And the room hasn’t quite moved on since.

FC Bayern wanted a Hong Kong artist for their Asia tour. Hong Kong illustrator Kristopher Ho gave them dragons and zodiac charms instead of the usual skyline.

Swipe through for how the jersey came together and the artist behind it.

From Jeju to Hong Kong.

A look back at the @fcbayern East Asia Tour, bringing local art and football together through bespoke, artist-designed matchday kits on their tour.

Which design was your favorite?

Hong Kong made its mark on the pitch, with local artists creating custom away kits for FC Bayern Munich and Manchester City. From Kristopher Ho (@kristopherh) designing @fcbayern’s Hong Kong special font, featuring dragon motifs and traditional Chinese aesthetics to Andrew (@yalocaloffgod) and Tate Mok (@tate.archive), the minds behind Offgod:Tate (@offgod.tate), creating a bold, futuristic numerals and skull-inspired accents nameset for @mancity's Asia Tour stop. The incredible collaborations show just how football merchandise can become a canvas for local design, and it’s a small but striking detail that makes pre-season tour a little more special.
