@billjohansen and @prc_chalmers Without you I would not have bought a lathe and found purpose for a large piece of tropical wood

Thanks to Patrick MacCarthy hanshi @koryuuchinadi we are not only able to build foundations and bridgeheads. We are also able to build bridges spanning the planet.

@ku_project16 Ante Brännbacka kyoshi received the sibling pair in Finland.

Bill and Phyllis, you are the heart and soul of Bill’s dojo, and I hope you find good use for the other pair.

I believe that Karate is not for the purpose of conflict with others, but to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.

It is precisely because everyone is different that things are interesting and new ideas are born.

Let us cultivate a generous character that embraces differences!

The next seminar is in Berlin🇩🇪

If you’re interested in,please let me know👋

Phew! What a weekend! On Feb 7 -8 I had the honor to be one of the instructors in a practical karate seminar. My role was to show how filipino martial arts (with improvised weapons) can be linked with kata and integrated into one's karate.

The seminar was arranged by Practical Karate Finland and hosted by Karate School Samurai in Hyvinkää. We also made it to "national news", i.e. the Finnish Karate Federation's blog: https://karateliitto.fi/blogi/kaytannollisen-karaten-seminaari/

We met sometime in the late 2000s —
three guys with a Shotokan background,
black belts since 1995.

Then we discovered Koryu Uchinadi,
which Kyoshi Ante Brännbacka (@ku_project16) had just brought to Finland.
That started a journey we’ve been on ever since.

Today, that path reached a special milestone —
receiving our 4th dan ranks from Hanshi Patrick McCarthy (@koryuuchinadi).

Jari and Juha also earned their well-deserved renshi titles 👏

Huge thanks to Kyoshi Ante —
without you, this ride would never have started.

Thanks also to all our training partners and students.

And the biggest thanks, of course, to Hanshi McCarthy
for making it all possible.
This is truly something invaluable. 🥋🙏

A time trip to the 80s and back with Ante Sensei (@ku_project16).

Starting off with proper old-school vibes – knuckle push-ups, sit-ups, cool roundhouse kicks, all the fun stuff. Brought back so many fond memories!

Then back to the present day with Koryu Uchinadi, ‘where everything comes together’.

Thanks again for an amazing camp! Big thanks also to my superb training partner Jarmo (@fitboostpt) all the other great training partners – always a pleasure. And thanks to @kauniaistenkarate for organizing. 🙏
