“Wake up, Speak up, Your Voice matters! Sing , dance , speak loud, for your choice matters.” Before South Asian Heritage Month is over @Kamitan_Arts would like to spotlight our young talented Aishwarya Gupta, who wrote this poem in response to our poetry open-call on the theme of Equity last year when she was 11, which featured at our inaugural Kensington & Chelsea Poetry Fringe and was displayed at the @designmuseum as part of our Poetry Trail. This year we commissioned Aishwarya to write a poem on the theme of PEACE which can be viewed at the Chelsea Library. Aishwarya Gupta is an award-winning published poet, talented classical Indian dancer and musician. Her poems have been selected for numerous years in Kensington and Chelsea for the poetry open-call. Aishwarya has several impressive accomplishments including the Young Poets Network Prize, and the City of London Poetry Contest. Kamitan Arts selected Aishwarya to join our Artistic Director in our debut at the Tate Britain last year, where she developed a new poetic piece inspired by Princess Emmanuelle’s newly written ‘Nefertiti Entrapped’ and partook in her ‘Ma’atian Movement’ choreography for the new Kamitan Arts production of “Nay of the Nile: Poetry in Ritual Motion”. This production inspired Aishwarya to venture on a family trip to Egypt to further feed her curiosity about this Ancient and regal civilization! Aishwarya is now currently in India teaching her very first Poetry class in a school inspiring children to read and write. We are so very proud of Aishwarya’s artistic development and the passionate and determined pursuit of her ambitions! The Kensington & Chelsea Poetry Fringe is a grassroots-led festival that’s rooted in RBKC, championing equitable partnerships, community leadership, and fair representation, helping to shape a more equitable and inclusive arts and culture sector. Curated by Kamitan Arts C.I.C, a long-standing performing arts and heritage non-profit in the heart of the Royal Borough! Transforming local public spaces, investing in local grassroots poets and increasing visibility for underrepresented voices. Follow the Poetry Trail here: KamitanArts.com/KandCPoetryTrail
