She was 18 years old with a scholarship and a dream.

One comment from her ballet teacher changed everything.

But what she built on the other side of that moment is exactly why we needed to have this conversation.

KamaKast with Illana Gambrill is live. Watch the full episode, link in bio. 💛

Celebrating gays and National poetry days!

For me poetry is about movement. Words dancing. Feelings moving through bodies. Beats. Music weaving within. Expression. Expansion. Surrender. Connection.

It’s just over 3 years since the inspiration for this poem took place at a @kure_method retreat. It’s just over 3 years since I said I was gay in front of a room of ‘strangers’.

It’s 1.5 years since I started my own poetry nights for queer voices @re_versevoices

I still have to remind myself I can take a leap. I can feel that thrill. And if you want to I know you can too.

Most of us were never given permission to scream.

Or cry. Or move without a reason. Or just let it out.

Illana Gambrill — founder of the KURE Method, former professional dancer, choreographer, and motivational speaker — has spent years giving people exactly that permission. And what she has witnessed on the other side of it is nothing short of remarkable.

New KamaKast episode is live. This one stays with you.

🗓 KURE Class —
Thursdays 7:15PM Westside
Mondays 7PM Echo Park starting September 28th
