There are no words to fully capture the magic of this past weekend. 10 years ago I was a student at @uazmusic making my debut with the @tucsonsymphony as a soloist on Sejourne’s Marimba Concerto as the winner of their Young Artist Competition. Now, a decade later, I was able to perform at the front of the Linda Ronstadt stage again, this time with my dear friend and musical brother, Fred Morgan (the hundreds upon hundreds of hours spent alongside each other working through this piece these past several months were absolutely worth it!!)

Thank you to @joseluisgomezconductor for selecting this concerto and for trusting us to rise to challenge and perform it on such a special program. Thank you to @christianvasquezu for leading the orchestra this week and for being such a sensitive and thoughtful collaborator and conductor. Thank you to @lauravegacompositora for such a wonderful addition to the percussion repertoire and for pushing the capabilities of our art form. Thank you to Stacey Hubert and the entire TSO production team for helping with the countless hours that went into the equipment moved, planning, and logistics of getting all 52 percussion instruments onto the stage. Thank you to our wonderful marketing and development team for all the promotional events and content created for advertising the event. Thank you to ALL our incredible colleagues at TSO for sharing the stage with us and giving life to the piece…it was such an honor to perform with all of you this week (and thank you to all the non-string players that took time to sit in the audience and give feedback and support us throughout the entire week). And a thank you to all the friends, family, students, teachers, and supporters that attended this week’s rehearsals and concerts.

Fred and I had been waiting for this concerto for over a year when we were first asked to perform Ángel de Luz and we are beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to present the USA premiere of this incredible composition. Here’s hoping that we will get the chance to perform the piece again sometime in the near future!!

Happy National Speech-Language Pathologist Appreciation Day! We’re sending our gratitude out to all SLP/SLPAs today 🥳

We at SLPs in a Pod (Krista & Holly) will be sharing more materials this summer, but here’s an update of what we’ve been up to since we last posted (it’s been a while… 😅)

Holly moved back to Tucson, AZ last year and now works in the same district as Krista! While we’re serving different schools, we’ve loved being able to collaborate and bounce ideas of each other.

Some of our highlights from this year include a LOT of learning through: @arshaorg convention, @prcsaltillo LAMP Words for Life trainings, and our district SLP cadre showcase (highlighting #quickartic and MTSS)!

We’re looking forward to posting more this summer and sharing ideas/resources — stay tuned! 🥰

This has been my first season serving as the ensemble leader for the @tucsonsymphony Percussion Quartet. Our Just for Kids concert this past weekend was truly “out of this world”! 🚀🛸🪐

I spent countless weeks designing the characters, planning costumes, writing the script, and arranging/composing half-a-dozen space-themed tunes (including Interstellar, Mars, Imperial March, Also Sprach, Here Comes the Sun, and an original composition called “Space Juice”).

A special thanks to the entire TSO education and production team for making this a success; we had a sold-out performance!

…Plus, any time I get to share my music with my family (especially my nephew) is a blast! 💥 feeling super thankful right now and looking forward to a relaxing week of family gatherings!

In July, my little brother @marimbarr married the most perfect girl in the world, his high school sweetheart, @penandprosody 💕 It was an absolute treat to officiate this perfect ceremony, and a bonus to enjoy such a lovely family vacation in Sedona 🌵 (wedding photos by the talented @jilltk @jillanddeanphotography)

Thank you all for the birthday wishes a couple of weeks ago! Unfortunately, COVID knocked me out for several days after my flight back to GA and I’m just getting around to responding to all the thoughtful bday messages.

Here are some photos from my debut week in my new position as Principal Percussionist with the Tucson Symphony.

The program included Nielsen’s Symphony No. 4 with some epic double timpani moments alongside the fantastic @alana.wiesing … Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 featuring a new pair of cymbals from @zildjiancompany just for the occasion … and a lot of fun percussion on the phenomenal “MeChicano” by @jpcomposer.

It’s been several years since I’ve been able to perform for family and friends back in my hometown, and it feels unreal knowing that I’ll get to continue doing this for a while. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing that loved ones are in the audience during a performance!

7/15/22! ✨💍🏜 🔔 on our 12-year anniversary (July 15th), Trevor and I gathered with our families in Sedona, AZ to get married! It was a day filled with anticipation, exhilaration, and so much love.
