POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One of my favorite songs in the musical is – no surprise – “Standing in My Way” aka the song about Manny’s struggles with love (before Willow).

Particularly this moment when I was confronted with the realization that I was, indeed, struggling with codependency.

That word had a lot of charge to me, and still has a lot of charge in our culture. And a term that’s really misunderstood, often conflated with being ‘clingy’ or overly attached.

But after reading Pia Mellody’s book on “Facing Codependence”, I realized it had so much more depth to it. It was about complex PTSD, about the ways we learn to abandon ourselves in relationships by organizing our lives around someone else’s feelings.

Putting this in the musical felt important because it was a crucial moment that made realize I needed to seek help. Help so that I could be open to the love of @willow__brook , this loving super being who has helped me see how much more spacious love can be when we’re willing to look at the ways we get in our own way. When I really learned the importance of valuing myself and my needs and wants.

Also yeah, it’s catchy af.

REV YOUR ENGINES, DRAW YOUR BOWS, AND MAKE WAY FOR OUR NEWEST ENSEMBLE MEMBER: JOHN WINSCHER. INDEED, IT IS JOHN-SEMBLE DAY!!

This honeycrisp cowboy rode in from GEORGIA on his motorcycle back in 2024 after sending us a letter asking if he could come work with us - complete with a little fill-in-the-blank for us to CHECK YES OR NO. Before we had even turned in our answer, he MOVED TO SANTA FE, showed up at a performance of ZERO, had thanksgiving with us the next week where he brought ELK to share, auditioned in person with casting director Garrett Young and the rest is HISTORY.

From day one he’s inspired us with his comedic brilliance, chameleonic range, proundly generous soul, and hot tips on how to cook an elk steak (slice across the grain, NEVER overcook).

He’s been seen in roles including Brett in CYRANO, Borkin and Z in IVANOV, Saul in BATHSHEBA, and Tony & Zero in ZERO. Beyond this, he’s created epic roles on Sky Railway x Exo, built our sets with his DIVINELY BESTOWED carpentry skills, served as our designer of FIGHTS, and he’s also our “deposits” guy, meaning he has an intimate relationship with our friends at Century Bank.

So what does it mean to be an Ensemble Member at Exodus? Ensemble member is a title bestowed upon someone EPIC at Exodus after they’ve worked with the company for several years. It is a way to desginate someone as a LIFER, or a driving force behind our artistic, operational, and cultural heartbeat. Ensemble members are the DNA of Exodus: responsible and inseparable from who we are and what we create together.

John - Exodus is so lucky you found your way to us and even luckier that you decided to stay!!!

WELCOME TO THE JOHNSEMBLE BABY! <33333

ps - CHECK YES times a billion

This past year, I wrote an original 8-song musical production about me and @willow__brook’s love story to be performed at our wedding.

From the moment I met her, life has felt like an unfolding musical. I wanted everyone at our wedding to feel that too.

Ours is a modern love story. It started years before we met, through a lot of healing, until we finally met on a dating app (in Taos of all places!)

When we moved to Santa Fe last year, we found @theexodusensemble , the best acting ensemble we could have dreamed of, and knew they were the ones to perform it. So that’s how our wedding began on May 30.

On October 10, we’re releasing it to the world: the full performance on video, filmed and edited by @gavinbanksy, and the 8-track album, mixed and mastered by @mrshreddybear.

If you’re in Santa Fe, we’re screening it at a local cinema on that day. DM us for details!

A few weeks ago, Exodus headed east for a very special night in Westport, Connecticut! We were lavished in love and introduced to a totally new community.

WHY WESTPORT?? Well, have a really cool still-a-secret announcement that involves something-about-the-east-coast-and-January COMING SOON, so we headed east to introduce Exodus to some new folks in the area, build excitement, and start fundraising for this upcoming adventure!

And boy were we met with extraordinary generosity, curiosity, hospitality, BIG OL SMILES, love, and SO MANY new friends. WESTPORT - you made us feel like a MILLION BUCKS!

a million kisses to @marks_elizabeth of @cmbcoffee for dreaming up and organizing the whole thing and making this night happen. To @susanvanechproperties and @carriebteamsvp @compass.connecticut for opening up your beautiful space to us for this party, making us feel right at home, and giving us an actual HOME to rest our heads during our whirlwind trip! And to our other illustrious host, @traceythomas & @venumagazine for making this evening such a success and and for championing Exodus with an epic spread in Venu Magazine.

And to everyone who came, listened, peeped our CYRANO pop up, asked questions, made introductions, drank wine, ate cheese, and schemed with us: THANK YOU.

This was just the beginning!!!

More news to come… soon 🙂.

Still thinking about this incredible evening in Westport with The Exodus Ensemble at COMPASS, Westport, CT.

Venü was proud to help welcome this extraordinary immersive theatre company to Connecticut ahead of their month-long New York City residency this January.

A very special thank you to Compass Westport for so generously hosting the evening and opening their beautiful space to The Exodus Ensemble. Their support helped make the night feel warm, welcoming and truly special.

Exodus creates theatre unlike anything traditional — intimate, immersive, unpredictable and deeply personal, with audiences sometimes numbering just 8–10 people.

What makes their mission even more meaningful is their commitment to accessibility. Rather than placing a traditional ticket price on these highly intimate experiences, Exodus invites audiences to pay what they can and what they feel the experience was worth, bringing together an incredible cross-section of people.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Westport and helped give Exodus such a wonderful welcome.

Westport welcomed Exodus. Next stop: New York City.
January 2027 — NYC, get ready.
