Let’s talk about a couple things…
1. Men also battle body image
2. We all choose how we internalize our appearance.

Every man you’re connected with in the weight loss and fitness communities has “and very likely still does” battle a negative body image. They don’t like the size of their stomachs, arms/shoulders and chest aren’t big enough, hate when you can their nipples through their shirts, their legs are too small, their shirts won’t stay tucked in, their butt is too big, their butt is too small. If you’re a dude that’s nodding along and I missed one of yours, please drop it in the comments. 👇🏻

Men feel this way, and that’s okay…it’s a starting point.

Now, let’s talk about how we all, have a choice on how we internalize our physical appearance.

I am 5’7” and currently weigh around 230 lbs. My torso is long and building up my upper body is very easy for me. Part of that is genetic, part of that is adaptations that were naturally made as my upper body has had to assist my movement because of Cerebral Palsy and part of that is I know how to train properly. My lower body is short and lean because of again, genetics, navigating CP and knowing how to train properly. There are elements of my body similar to others but the mix of everything together is unique to me. That’s true for all of us btw.

Yesterday I took that selfie and didn’t like how it highlighted my stomach. Teenage all the way up to thirty something me would have started the negative self-talking loop but I paused. I looked at my body and decided to appreciate all that it’s gotten through, then I went deeper to appreciate the person I’ve become after the years and in some elements, the life I’ve had. I was born prematurely at a time “the early 80’s” where survival was not much better than a coin flip in situations like mine. Then add that I was late on a few benchmarks leading to the CP diagnosis when I was 2. I could easily wear “you’ll always be behind” as a label and honestly, for a long time I did…that stopped a few years ago. The point is, my body “like yours” and myself as an individual “like you 🫵🏻” has been through a lot and we should appreciate ourselves inside and out!! 💪🏻🦥
