Most of us were told that energy comes from something you can buy. A drink. A pill. A night out. Scrolling on social media. We believed it too. In our late teens and early twenties we thought we were invincible. We thought we could do it all on our own. We thought the party was where the joy was. It wasn’t. It left us drained, distracted, and further from the men we were supposed to become. Both of us went through seasons we’re not proud of. Bad choices. Real mental health battles. Years of chasing things that never filled us up. What changed everything was the people who stepped in. Mentors who told us the truth. Men who showed us that real energy doesn’t come from caffeine, alcohol, drugs, or porn. It comes from purpose. From faith. From family, brotherhood, and building something that matters. We’re not perfect. We still have a long way to go. But we’ve lived both sides of this. Now we get to hand it forward to the young men standing where we stood 10 years ago. That’s what this film is about. Right now the world is full of voices glorifying the things that make men weaker, more fragile, and more lost. Flew to New York for this. A few years ago, something like this felt way out of reach. Now I’m here filming a feature doc on the ‘86 Mets… still kind of wild to say. Not in a “I got lucky” way — just knowing how much went into it. The long days, the quiet seasons, the stuff nobody saw. I think that’s the part people miss. Yeah, being in New York on set is amazing. But honestly, the best part is getting to build a life around something I used to just talk about. That’s not lost on me. Ah yes… the classic red-flag client. Big vision. Endless requests. $500 budget. They want Hollywood quality…with little to NO working budget. If you’ve been in this industry long enough, you’ve met this client. The one who says: “Can you make this look like a million bucks… but keep it around $500?” And look, ambition isn’t the problem. Misaligned expectations are. Because great work takes: • time • planning • crew • resources • and yes… budget There’s a difference between being resourceful and being unrealistic. One of the biggest growth moments for creatives is learning this: Not every project is meant to be a yes. Sometimes professionalism means: → setting boundaries → educating the client → or respectfully walking away Know your worth. Know your numbers. Know when the math isn’t mathing. Tag a filmmaker who’s met the “Hollywood vision, lunch money budget” client 👇 Pro tip: Know when to walk away, and know your worth.

A lot of filmmakers think success comes from becoming better at everything. Better shooter. Better editor. Better director. But the biggest shift in my career came when I realized something else. The goal isn’t to do everything well. The goal is to surround yourself with people who are exceptional at what they do. This project is a great example. What you’re seeing here is the final brand commercial we created after multiple days of production across multiple luxury homes. But what makes a production like this work isn’t just the gear. Or even the director. It’s the people behind the camera. The camera operator bringing movement and precision. The gaffer shaping the entire look of the scene. The grip team supporting every lighting and rigging decision. The drone operator adding scale and perspective. The production assistants making sure the entire day runs smoothly. And even the person documenting behind-the-scenes. Because the experience you create on set matters just as much as the final video. Clients remember how organized things felt. How confident the team was. How smoothly the production ran. And when they see the final result later… It reinforces everything they experienced in real time. That combination is powerful. Great work. Great experience. Great documentation of the process. When those things align, growth becomes inevitable. Not because you did everything yourself. But because you built something bigger than yourself. Let me say something that most creators don’t want to hear: Clients don’t fund potential. They fund proof. This documentary? Unpaid. No safety net. Just me carving out time, investing money, and betting on myself. Because I don’t want to just say I direct meaningful documentaries. I want to show it. Too many filmmakers and creative entrepreneurs wait for the “right” client to give them the opportunity. But the opportunity is the work you create before they ever call you. If you want higher-paying clients… More aligned projects… More creative freedom… You have to build the proof of concept first. That means: • Taking calculated risks • Creating passion projects • Investing in your own vision • Showing the world what you’re capable of Luck isn’t random.
