With this incredible group I participate in @br_ifw + @wiredfestivalbrasil

We organized this talk through a new project I have with my colleagues @ggcasimiro and @joypiresb, which is @metaversefashiontalks

Let's address a subject that we have discussed a lot internally, which is the Coexistence between humans and AI or real and artificial life.

We will have an incredible group of professionals with us!

Can we create a sensing system that makes devices aware of what’s happening around them?

Earlier this year, Technical and Design Leads at Google ATAP Eiji Hayashi and Lauren Bedal shared how our teams approach this exciting question.

Eiji and Lauren gave a talk at the Augmented World Expo @awe.xr where they introduced a full-body interaction technique that uses miniaturized radar technology and advanced machine learning for the detection and recognition of spatial relations, as they naturally occur around devices.

AWE is the main go-to event for everything related to Spatial Computing including Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality and enabling technologies such as Artificial Intelligence-AI, bio-interfaces, haptics, 5G, streaming.

Computers are disappearing into the things we use every day, but they are far from feeling “invisible” — they often interrupt us and feel overwhelming.

One of the goals of our design team within Google ATAP is to solve this, and help build devices that understand us intuitively.

Over the past 6 years our team has used a radar-based sensing platform called Soli to create new interaction techniques.

You can find out more by reading an article published on The Keyword or watching the first episode of “In the Lab with Google ATAP” on YouTube.

While conducting experiments to test our theory in practice, we created a set of interaction primitives inspired by the natural way we communicate with each other:

- approaching and leaving a device,
- turning towards and away from it,
- passing by it,
- glancing over at it.

We think of these as fundamental building blocks that we can use to reconfigure and recompose new use-cases for products and experiences.

This brings us closer to the future where technology recedes into the background, it understands your context, and it only comes to the foreground when it’s needed. This means spending less time on our phone, and more time in the physical world with each other.
