Party with us on Saturday! Each month, Rogue practices what it preaches through a variety show in Los Feliz! Join us for an hour of IMPROV, STORYTELLING, & ARTIVISM! ROGUE VARIETY SHOW - SATURDAY, AUGUST 8th - 8:30-9:30PM Hosted by Michael Sielaff, the Rogue Variety Show will showcase improv by Imaginary Circumstances (Warren Barrow, David Anthony Hinton, Zari Alisha Rose, & More!) and a Teacher Armando (Joe Spence, Marshall Givens, Natasha Perez, Julie Silverstein, Wendy Natividad, Stephen Gillikin, Michael Sielaff); Artivism by Michael J. Sielaff; as well as feature first-person stories by Kelly Spillman & Lacey Stansell! The show is FREE with encouragement to donate. This is a regular monthly performance opportunity on the second Saturday of each month, so submit your improv team, story, or artivism piece for an upcoming show! Our first annual Disabled Bodies are Beach Bodies event was so special. The beach in general is pretty inaccessible for a lot of folks in the disability community. The heat, lack of paved access points, sensory issues with sand… But at our event, we problem solved, like disabled folks do 😉 With the help of @weirdhairdreams , we set up four easy ups on the pavement, had an ASL interpreter, and were set up along the @mobimatofficial in @longbeachcity . These events create opportunities for people to show up exactly how they are without fear of judgement. Together, @InfiniteFlowDance and @Walmart Create Sparks transformed a Saturday afternoon shopping trip into a celebration of joy, visibility, and belonging. It’s not every day you coordinate dancers throughout a Walmart store, including Deaf and hard of hearing performers bringing American Sign Language into the heart of the experience to celebrate Disability Pride Month. Set to Sapphire by Ed Sheeran featuring Arijit Singh, a song that beautifully bridges cultures, languages, and communities, this performance wove ASL into the choreography, becoming an expression of connection, reminding us that visibility, belonging, and celebration can be accessible to All! #DisabilityPride is bigger than a moment, a month, or a single community. ✨ALL BODIES ARE BEACH BODIES!✨ • Sunday I jumped out of bed and (had to Irish goodbye most of RE friends- sorry! I love you so!) hoped on the freeway to Long Beach to celebrate Disability Pride Day at the Beach! ♿️🏝️ • I can’t tell you how amazing it felt after spending the weekend at Rollettes Experience surrounded by our beautiful disabled community, to be able to drive an hour to the beach to celebrate our gorgeous community with even MORE friends who just GET IT. Lawwd knows I wouldn’t be half the advocate or nurse I am today if it wasn’t for the community and getting to learn from every single one of y’all. • The Disabled Community is beautiful and strong and CAPABLE OF ANYTHING!!! . ✨✨ In partnership with @walmart , I produced and directed a flashmob to celebrate Disability Pride Month at the Walmart Supercenter in Rosemead, CA. What an experience! Joy and liberation are essential to transforming systems. This day was nothing but full of joy. We paraded through the store’s aisles, then danced our hearts to Ed Sheeran’s “Sapphire.” With 1/3 of the dancers being Deaf and Hard of Hearing, we incorporated ASL choreography as a core component of the dance. Along the way, we got shoppers and Walmart Associates to dance with us. Stay tuned for the video! With Walmart’s mission being to “save people money so they can live better,” Walmart serves a broad demographic of people, including people with disabilities. Some accessibility features Walmart has intentionally incorporated include, sensory friendly hours, Caroline’s Carts, Aira visual interpreters, motorized shopping scooters, ScripTalk talking labels, and Braille prescription labels. We are honored to amplify Walmart’s work in accessibility through bringing a disability inclusive flashmob to life at a Walmart store. Big thank you to @zoya_theexplorer who pulled all the pieces together to make this happen. I met Zoya three years ago, and we’ve been talking about a disability inclusive flashmob at Walmart ever since. Lots of meetings, calls, and coordination to get us to this place. Happy to share space with @diversability led by @imtiffanyyu and @kathryngoetzke of @theshinehopecompany at the event, and thank you @iwgroup for all the coordination in between. And thank you to @InfiniteFlowDance company artists and community dancers for dancing your hearts out for a message bigger than all of us combined!
