1️⃣ Published on Main (Main Street) — Even when the Michelin-starred dining room sells out weeks ahead, the front bar holds walk-in seats nightly starting at 5pm with full menu access.

2️⃣ Osteria Savio Volpe (Fraserhood) — Skip the month-long wait for a dining room table and grab a walk-in seat at the kitchen counter or bar right in front of the wood-fired grill.

3️⃣ Kissa Tanto (Chinatown) — Show up at 5:30pm when the upstairs doors open to put your name down for a walk-in bar seat with the full Italian-Japanese dinner menu.

4️⃣ L’Abattoir (Gastown) — The dining room books out fast on weekends, but the 10-seat front bar is held first-come, first-served for walk-ins with the full French-West Coast menu.

A little taste of Vancouver Island without leaving Vancouver.

Last night at L’Abattoir for the Visa Infinite Dining Series, bringing together five restaurants for one pretty special dinner.

I’ve been a big fan of L’Abattoir, Pluvio, and Ugly Duckling for a while now, so it was a bonus to finally experience Fox & Monocle and Wild Mountain for the first time.

Loved seeing what each kitchen brought to the table, especially with so many Vancouver Island ingredients and wines.

Definitely my kind of evening.

And yes, I left the quail photo a little wider on purpose. My friend had already finished his entire dish before I was even done taking my picture. 😂

This week was a full one. L’Abattoir’s retention of its Michelin recommendation. Then competing in Vancouver’s heat for Canada’s great kitchen party and taking home first place 🥇. What a night at L’Abattoir 🍽️

We celebrated Episode 2 “Forage, Land & Sea”featuring Robin Jackson from @westcoast_mycology and Amanda Swinimer @dakinitidalwilds, with an intimate Pacific Northwest feast built around everything that episode is about.

Executive Chef Jasper Cruickshank @mrcookit and our very own Savoured Here host, Colton Armstrong-Ashley @colton.aa, teamed up with Bar Manager Alexa Gervais @alexagervais for a tasting menu showcasing the region’s land and sea, paired with cocktails that told the same story.

This is exactly why we made this series. Not just to document the people behind Vancouver Island’s food culture, but to keep creating moments where that culture gets celebrated in person, around a table, with the people who live it.

Thank you to everyone who came out, and to @labattoir_van, @empress1908gin, and @maisonperrierca for helping bring the evening together.
