“Capitol”, 2023 oil/canvas 54”x 38”

There’s something deeply human about trying to hold up the impossible. Since 2023, I’ve been developing a new body of work exploring the tension between fragility and permanence—a way of looking at life that continues to shape everything I create.

El Moisés. Original Contemporary Chicano Creations. Acrylic on canvas, accented with clear coats, diamond dust, & or glitter. Open To Fine Art Commissions.
.
Burque based artist El Moisés was born in Baja, Ol'Mexico. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Arizona, but his childhood was spent on both sides of the border as he made frequent visits to relatives in Mex. Elements from both lands, layered with his personal flair & imagination, led to the distinct new contemporary / folk art style he shares today. His paintings tend to combine traditional Chicano & American pop culture with Mexican traditions, lowrider pinstriping, & Southwestern symbolism to create a merging neon-hued extravaganza, which El Moisés refers to as "badass folk art!" There’s a mystical quality to his work that deftly blends life & death, sacred & profane in a way that seems organic. Moisés paints what he loves & knows, following a theme in a subject’s life until he can transpose it to canvas. Moisés has taken his personal background in Mexican & Native American folk art to the entire world with works that can be found on labels, murals, books, motorcycles & so much more. One of his most proud collaborates, are the bilingual children's books he illustrated with the late great New Mexican author Rudolfo Anaya.

FERNANDO BOTERO
Niña, 1959
Oil on canvas
56 x 50 in (142.2 x 127 cm)

An early work that reflects the foundations of Fernando Botero’s distinctive visual language, Niña captures the artist’s exploration of volume, form, and proportion before his style fully matured. Even at this stage, the emphasis on presence and quiet monumentality is evident, offering a glimpse into the evolution of one of Latin America’s most iconic painters.

Last month, we made our way to Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary for an afternoon of exploring and connecting.

As advisors, fairs like PBM+C are an opportunity to take the pulse of the market. Walking the booths and engaging with galleries lets us get a feel for what’s resonating with collectors right now. As first-time attendees, we were excited by the range of mid-career to blue-chip artists, and the meaningful presence from Latin American galleries and artists that reflect the region’s influence in the broader market.

South Florida’s art scene continues to grow in depth and ambition, and we left energized by the conversations and the works. Swipe through for a few highlights from the floor.
