🌈GOODBYE, LADY O🌈 I am so grateful for the bonus days I got with her this weekend after the big scare. The seizures did damage to her enlarged heart and she passed away in my arms Sunday morning.

Our world revolved around our "Weedog". My kids and I are absolutely crushed without her. People used to joke about how soft the pads of her feet were, because they rarely touched the floor! We told her dozens of times a day how much we loved her. We told her daily how pretty she was, and how much she meant to us. We spent so much time snuggling her and kissing on her, that outside family members would sometimes grumble and say "my gosh can you put her down for a little bit??".

Lady O knew she was the princess of our family. We told her, we showed her, we constantly proved it. The moment we got home from errands or events, we often dropped everything in our hands by the door and raced to see who could pick her up for snuggles first. We were OBSESSED.

There is a 3.5 pound hole in our hearts and our home. She absolutely rescued my sanity after Mama Nutmeg passed. This is the WORST part of loving and adopting senior pets---we give them our all but there's just never enough time.

There has been so much trauma and upheaval in my life the past 2 weeks, but I'm still standing. I'm exhausted and questioning everything, but I'm here. And I'll be here tomorrow. And every day after that.

But not gonna lie. Right now it feels really empty without my organization and my Lady O.

Goodbye my Weedog. There will never ever ever be another @lady.olenna. You were THE ONE. ❤️

@lady.olenna died in my arms yesterday but came back. She has seizures every 3 months or so, but I can immediately snap her out of them after 10-15 seconds. Yesterday was awful. She was bent backwards and screaming and howling and no matter what I did, she wouldn't come out of it. It lasted a few minutes and finally just went limp.

I rolled her up in my arms, laid her on my chest, and told her how much I loved her and how perfect she was.

Her eyes glazed over and everything was slack. As we were pressed heart to heart, as we always like to do, I felt a random heartbeat. She has a 5/6 heart murmur so trust me when her heart beats, it's like a thump on the chest.

I jumped up and started squeezing her chest like a madman and shoved her whole snout in my mouth and breathed for her. I did this 3 times and she blinked! I started shaking the hell out of her tiny 3.5 pound body, and she took a breath and picked up her head!

Her purplish white gums got the tiniest hint of pink and I just kept cheering her on and rubbing her chest while she came to.

She was dazed, and I'm sure painful from all the writhing, and she wasn't really normal for about 10 minutes. I packed her up and immediately headed to the vet. Since she wasn't really coming back to normal, I assumed we were going to be helping her cross the bridge. However..... My vet was doing relief work at another clinic so I figured the out of town drive would be worth it to let it be someone she knows doing the appointment.

By the time we pulled into town, she was normal. Walking, peeing, looking at me like what's with all the drama, mama?? I figured this was just a last hoorah before another bad seizure but thank all the heavens for Dr. Britton at @beecreekvethospital. She whisked her back for bloodwork and an echo.

We sat in absolute shock and grief until doc came back and said bloodwork looks pristine and the echo showed her murmur is now a 6/6 and we just needed to add one more medication. And we were safe to go back home.

I am still in shock. I cannot believe my baby is back home and totally fine. Yesterday was freaking TRAUMATIC. Whoever put the hex on me, can you PLEASE lay off now?! 😭😭😭

You know what day it is?! 🎉 #NationalDogDay ✨ Tell us about YOUR doggies and what impact they have in your lives. And of course, we would LOVE to see pics! This is Lady O and Chuey (@lady.olenna and @mama.nutmeg) who belong to our founder and director, April. After losing her beloved Chihuahua brothers, Bronty and Vargas, after 15.5 years, the thought of ever owning another pet seemed too much.

But then, you know what they say about the best laid plans....

Through the process of fostering pets at @lwhadoptables, it became clear that continuing to help vulnerable pets was the BEST way to honor them. And so, along the way, two fosters named Chuey (Wellick) and Weedog (Lady Olenna) became the glue that helped heal a broken heart. We don't call it foster failing.... We call it adoption success!

❤️TWINKLE TOES❤️ UPDATE: We have had a great deal of interest in this girl, and many many emails, messages, and comments asking for updates. This week's vet appointment revealed that, as we feared, she is very very very high heartworm positive with a 4/6 grade heart murmur and a skin infection. She's symptomatic with the heartworms, which makes transporting her to out of state adopters off the table right now. We must keep her calm (easy to do because she's SUPER chill) while she undergoes treatment.

For the moment, unless adopters want to complete treatment at their own clinics, we are going to put a pause on applications. We are sending her to foster with @mama.nutmeg, where she will be kept calm and pampered with @lady.olenna while she completes heartworm treatment.

This girl is such a gem!! Whoever is still interested in adopting her once she completes treatment, is going to get a FANTASTIC little companion! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you to @bcs_pet_nurse for partnering with us all year long! Because of you, we were able to provide FREE veterinary exams and vet tech services to our community. And @lady.olenna and Chuey thank you for making house calls to do nail trims and anal glands. It helps them be so much more relaxed! ❤️

Hello, sweet friends. I'm sorry for being away so long. I just needed space to heal. Losing Mama so abruptly took a toll on me, so I mostly just posted on the @lady.olenna account. I iced you out to protect my own heart. 🧊 Forgive me. ♥️

I am back now and want to honor Mama's legacy by continuing to show other @lwhadoptables pets we have rescued. This is the best way I know how to keep pushing forward while also keeping her memory alive.

Meet our new foster, Tiny Tim. He has NOT been posted on the official rescue account yet, so SHHHHHHH. It's our secret for now! 😂😁

He came to us from the Houston area, and we were told he was a puppy. The first images we saw were super blurry so we couldn't tell if it was a pittie pup with strangles or what. We drove to meet them halfway and knew right away it was an adult Chihuahua.

He's only about 3.8 pounds and we did a LOT of diagnostics trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Was it a rattlesnake bite? Congestive heart failure? Autoimmune?

After lotssssss of tests and imaging, it was determined that he had a super heavy load of heartworms that was mimicking signs of congestive heart failure. He was carrying fluid all around his face and neck, down his sternum, and even around his booty.

The staff at @beecreekvethospital got him started on diuretics and pulled over a POUND of fluid off him over the weekend, revealing just how skinny he really is.

We've started Tiny Tim on heartworm treatment, and our goal is to get him to gain weight. He's had a neuter and dental cleaning, so now we just focus on lots of TLC and premium groceries. As you know with Mama Nutmeg, we know how to get pets to lose or gain weight as needed! ♥️

Okay, my friends. That's all for now but check out his pics to see his journey so far. He's a SUPER sweet and affectionate little guy estimated at 2 years old and (post fluid) clocking in at just 3.8 pounds.

Meet my new @lwhadoptables foster, TAMMY FAYE BARKER. 🥰🫧💅 I need wig and eyelash emojis... Stat! This 2.9 pound girl comes to us from the shelter where she was found abandoned in a home after the people moved out. She is NOT a senior, but like our @lady.olenna, she comes to us very thin and with skin issues.

Tammy Faye Barker will get her nose to tail vet care this week, and we will get her skin healing in no time.

Thank you to our sweet friend @the_kardoggians for naming our new girl, and spending the morning oohing and ahhing over her with me. 🥰 You're simply the best. ❤️
