“It makes a difference if you can smile when they’re smiling. Your life’s just a little bit easier.” 💛

In this clip, Larry Griner reminds us of a simple but profound truth: activity for the mind and body isn’t just for the person living with dementia—it’s for the caregiver, too.

When we find ways to keep our loved ones engaged, whether through music, a walk, or a favorite hobby, we aren’t just filling time.

We are creating a shared environment of joy. When they find a moment of genuine enjoyment, it lightens the load for us, too.

Caregiving is heavy, but these small, shared smiles are the “anchors” that keep us grounded.

Today, I encourage you to look for one small activity that brings a spark to their eyes—and notice how it changes the rhythm of your own heart.

“Dementia is not fun. It’s not pretty. You’re watching your loved one decline before your eyes.”

It’s rare to hear such raw honesty, but Larry Griner isn’t afraid to say what so many caregivers feel every single day.

In this clip, we talk about the weight of the “unknown” and the reality that even when you have a day off, you never truly leave the situation behind 💛

Larry shares a beautiful perspective on why he stepped in to care for his mother: to relieve his brother who had given so much. It’s a reminder that while this journey is often a “self-imposed rabbit hole,” we don’t have to go down it alone.

Dementia forces us into the present moment.

We don’t know what tomorrow holds, or what the future looks like “after,” but we can choose to do the best we can with the minute we are in right now.

To the caregivers who feel the weight of the unknown today: I see you. You are doing the best you can, and that is enough.

Connection isn’t always found in a conversation. Sometimes, it’s found in a shared rhythm 🎶✨

In this beautiful moment from our conversation with Larry Griner, we talk about the power of “mirroring.”

When Larry moves, Norma moves. When he sings, she finds her voice.

It’s about more than just listening to a song—it’s about being moved by it. For dementia caregivers, music can be the bridge that bypasses the confusion and leads you straight back to the person you love.

It’s a way to connect with them, even when the words aren’t there 💛

If you are looking for a way to “lighten the load” today, try turning on a favorite song. Watch for the mirroring. Watch for the connection. You might just find a moment of magic waiting for you.

Sometimes, the most powerful tools in caregiving don’t come from a medical manual—they come from a melody 🎶

In this clip, Larry Griner shares how music became a lifeline for him and his mother, Norma. Even when the names and dates feel out of reach, a familiar song can pull a loved one back into the present moment.

As Larry says, it doesn’t matter if you’ve played that same song a hundred times.

If it elicits that spark, if it changes their focus, and if it brings you both a moment of shared joy... use it. Let it be your tool 💛

To the caregiver who is feeling the weight of the “unknown” today: I hope you find your “song”—that one thing that helps you reconnect with the person you love and gives your own heart a moment to breathe.

Music has a way of reaching the soul when words no longer can 🎶

In this week’s Life on Repeat Podcast rewind episode, I’m joined by the wonderful Larry Griner. Larry moved across the country to care for his mother, Norma, and discovered something magical along the way: the power of a melody to bring her—and himself—back to life 💛

By sharing videos of their front-porch singalongs, Larry didn’t just find a way to navigate the challenges of dementia; he built a community of fans from all over the world who found hope in their connection 🌍✨

We explore the reality of long-term caregiving, the unexpected joy found in social media, and how music can be the bridge that leads us back to the people we love.

If you’re feeling the weight of the journey today, let Larry and Norma’s story be a reminder that magic can still happen in the hard moments.

There are people in our lives who walk the same path, yet have their own journey. Larry Griner was a caregiver for his mother throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s. His sharing online was a spark of hope for Luke in sharing his story.

Larry drove up from San Diego to LA to meet with Luke and the Forgetting to Remember gang! We shared stories…laughs…hugs…tears…(and Smashburger) with someone who truly understands this journey. Larry’s visit was like a ray of sunshine in Luke’s LA trip.
