Tastings, talks and technical demonstrations for coffee industry professionals filled two sunny days in Portland, Oregon, last week at the 2026 Roast Summit event hosted by Roast magazine.

The event that originated in Portland in 2020 has since also taken place in Seattle, the Chicago area and Melbourne, Australia. The next Roast Summit is scheduled for March 2-3, 2027 in Melbourne. Here we share a few scenes from last week’s Summit in Portland...

The weekend assignment: celebrate our girl, Katie, with our whole heart.
She’s known for bringing beauty into our lives and the spaces around her, so this weekend was a cheers to that and so much more.

The forest table spreads by Holly, Emily, and Royal were jaw dropping. Sol and Terry shucked no less than 9 dozen oysters. Jordan secured two magnums of champagne from a special cellar and coordinated so many sweet details. Natalie and Amy (and Katie!) prepped stew a day ahead because “it tastes better the second day”. Nicci and I reimagined steak frites and salad for welcome bites on night one (not pictured). S/O to Blake for smoking 4 Tri-tips 🙌🏼. Katie batched an absurd amount of negronis, aviations, and manhattans. Jake and I whipped up some fresh-off- the-forest-floor chanterelle toast for everyone post hunt. Amy and Mallory made 8(?) loaves of homemade sourdough. Luke and Mallory took the most beautiful photos as always. Every cabin owner hosted and swept up pine needles after us all. Jake facilitated mafia for the group which might have been too chaotic to try do again. Everyone washed dishes and carried things all over the place. And Mort watched everyone’s kids.

Love this village.

Started my thirties living in my friends basement (thank you Amy). Starting my forties with a business, Jordan, my beautiful boys, my angel pup and a group of friends who celebrate the hell outta birthdays. Feeling an overload of gratitude for this one beautiful life.

Still taking this one in 🤎☕

Women in Coffee brought together more than 180 guests who showed up to learn, connect, and lift one another up. Together, we raised over $1,400 for the Washington Women’s Foundation, and honestly, that number only tells part of the story.

To our sponsors Minor Figures, Beanz, Breville, and Baratza, thank you for showing up for this industry time and time again. Not only are you a part of the community but you bolster it up with your support and generosity.

We are in awe of our panelists who opened up to share their wisdom, journeys, and hard-won knowledge. Their honesty is what made this space feel so powerful. And to Cait from Tiny Sidecar, thank you for holding space for such a rich, real conversation and guiding it with so much care.

To every vendor and friend who gave their time, energy, and heart to make this day happen, we see you, and we’re so grateful for you.

And to everyone who walked through the door: thank you for trusting us with your time and your stories. This community is the reason we keep doing this work.

Two years in, and it just keeps growing. We cannot wait to see what Year 3 brings. See you in 2027. 💛

What could 10 weeks do for your coffee business?

Coffee Futures Fund brings independent coffee shop owners together with experienced mentors and a community of peers to work through the real challenges of running and growing a shop, from profitability and operations to leadership and the decisions about what comes next.

Cohort 1 showed us just how powerful it is when owners have a place to step outside the day-to-day, learn from people who understand the business, and work through the hard stuff together.

Now we’re building Cohort 2.

If you’ve been thinking about applying, this is your sign. Applications close October 15 and seats are limited.
Apply at coffeefutures.fund/apply.

Thinking about applying to Coffee Futures Fund? Here’s the bigger picture.

CFF is a 10-week program for independent coffee shop owners who want to build stronger, more sustainable businesses.

We focus on the parts of ownership that don’t always make it onto Instagram: profitability, hiring, leadership, operations, growth, and the decisions that determine whether your business actually works for the long term.

You’ll learn from experienced mentors, but just as importantly, you’ll spend those 10 weeks alongside other owners navigating many of the same questions you are.

It’s a chance to step away from constantly reacting to what needs your attention today and spend real time thinking about what your business needs next.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you apply. You just need to be ready to look closely at your business, ask better questions, and do the work.

Applications for Cohort 2 are now open through October 15. Limited seats available. Apply at coffeefutures.fund/apply.
