Outfall, Bryony Gillard, 2026
East Quay, 19 Sept - 3 Jan

It’s almost here! This Saturday 19th Sept my new moving image work will premiere in a bespoke sculptural installation at East Quay (Watchet, UK).

This has been in the works for a while and I am so excited to share it with the world. The project would not have been possible without an amazing group of collaborators & contributors including Oliver Sutherland, Mary Woodvine, Lewin Greaves, Tina Hitchens, Sarahsson, Jo Kelly, Maria Christoforidou, Cape SPC, Nikki Glover, Bluey, Bandit and Davey the detection dogs, Billy and Shirley the Bass, as well as all the friends and peers in the UK and USA who have provided feedback and advice along the way.
I am so proud of this work and can’t wait for it to meet the world.

A huge thanks to the East Quay / Contains Art for their sterling work installing this week. Come through for the party this Saturday!

I’ve wanted to visit East Quay Watchet for a while - it’s a space of ambition set in a practical & locally inspired context. The film at the heart of Always Coming Home is beautifully edited and installed. Impactful and dreamlike. Congratulations to the artist and curatorial team. 🖤 Exhibition runs until 31 August.

REFRACTION. A collaborative project between Geckeolla and East Quay studio artists.
21/2/26-29/3/26
Opening celebration Fri 20. 6-8 pm

ALABASTER ROCKS was created for a site specific installation at Studio 10, EAST QUAY Art Centre, Watchet. Myself and other EQ studio artists collaborated with Geckoella, the geology group located at East QUAY. Crystals being the focal point we concentrated on the geology and coastline of the local environment around Watchet.
I sculpt stone and was intrigued by the alabaster found so prolifically on this coast. A white/peachy stone easy to carve. I decided to make a pendulum. Using precision tools in the Geckoella laboratory the pendulum took shape. Help from chance conversations with locals and lovely people I met in the pub added to the organic process of drilling into and carving alabaster.

The esoteric nature of all things. The electromagnetism surrounding all matter. Crystals with such high energy vibrations tune into the vibrational frequencies we emit. A pendulum tunes into your intuition and can guide us with yes/no questions.

ALABASTER ROCKS is a short 4 min film performed, filmed and edited by Amanda Jane Shears. The pendulum reacts to the environment where it was found on the disappearing coastline between Blue Anchor and St Audries Bay.

Come and experience the entire exhibition at REFRACTION, Studio 10, EQ, Watchet. 21/2/26 - 29/03/26.
Opening celebration 20/2/26, 6-8pm

➿ Make sure to catch Being, in touch while you can! Only open for a few more weeks - until 06 July! ➿

🤸‍♀️ Full of collaborations and playful connections, this installation brings together ongoing conversations between the artists about movement, time, the porosity of boundaries and the space in-between.

Through pushing both the boundaries of their work and the gallery space, the artists explore a fleshly relationship with the local geological environment where interactions within the ecosystem correspond to bodies and modes of making.

🔎 Viewable daily (and nightly!) on the left side window of Positive Light Projects, Sidwell St, Exeter

Feeling very lucky to have been working on two collaborative and experimental exhibitions over the past few weeks! It's been great to playfully explore the connections between creative practices in two quite different shows and spaces that are just around the corner from each other ⤵️

In 5 Paris Street I've loved showing my work alongside @adamsgarratt for the first time, uncovering touching points between our sculptural practices and playing with the disruption/navigation of a space 🚧

And in Traction it has been lovely to get back together with @laurarobertsonart and @laingtateart, approximately two years on from our trio show at The Plough! Within the limitations of the window gallery we've collided and melded our works together, bringing them into something new ➿

I really love working collaboratively, being able to play and bounce ideas around with some amazing artists and friends, and pushing my practice in exciting and challenging directions. Plus it's always super fun!!

🗓️ Make sure to check them out on the final weekend of @artweekexeter - details below!

Shifting Sites | New Ground - with @adamsgarratt at 5 Paris Street @artweekexeter only until Sunday 15 June!

Being, in touch - with @laurarobertsonart and @laingtateart at @traction.projects until 06 July.

Being, in touch, our latest exhibition in Traction Project Space is now open! 💥

The resulting work is a collaboration between myself (Erika), Millie Laing-Tate and Laura Robertson, who I met though the studios at Positive Light Projects!! Super excited to be showing their work back here where it all began 💚

Both within their studios and outside in changing landscapes, the three artists explore a fleshly relationship with the local geological environment. Interactions within the ecosystem correspond to bodies and modes of making.

Sculptural, photographic and stitched materials squish, fold and overlap through skin to skin encounters. New synergies form each time they meet.

Join us for a celebration and gathering evening on Thursday 12 June, 7-9pm. Everyone welcome!

31st May to 28th June 2025
Open Wednesdays – Saturdays 12 - 5pm

A woman’s body is a site of intensity. Its collisions with the world are often not expected or summoned but take place regardless. We exist in these fleshy forms which in turn sit amongst, lean against, and trod through the physical world.

Being, in touch is a group show by Erika Cann, Millie Laing-Tate and Laura Robertson which melds their art practices together through a process-led and playful collaboration.

In the window of Traction Project Space, the trio will develop their material-driven approach to making that emerges through ongoing conversations about movement, time, the porosity of boundaries and the space in-between.

First explored in their group show, the foot sinks into it, at the Plough Arts Centre in 2023, the artists explore a fleshly relationship with the local geological environment. Interactions within the ecosystem correspond to bodies and modes of making. Sculptural, photographic and stitched materials squish, fold and overlap through skin to skin encounters.

New synergies form each time they meet 🤝

The exhibition runs from Mon 09 Jun - Sun 06 Jul, with a gathering evening during Art Week on Thu 12 Jun, 7pm - 9pm 🥂
