$Every chance I have to visit Lotusland I grow deeper in admiration. This time our tour was focused on the maintenance that it takes to curate this incredible unique garden. We learned so much about how Lotusland is doing all the right things! They are completely organic, making their own compost, compost tea, mulch... dedicating gardens as insectariums, and understanding the ebb and flow of its biodiversity. Thank you Paul Miller for a generous sharing of your story and expertise! . Last person in the image: is Mike Furner, he is the last (active) of the original gardeners that worked for Madame Ganna Walska. Similar to the rare and extinct-in-the-wild Encephalartos woodii, you get to witness living history in a botanical assurance colony. . Madame’s incredible garden is a patrimony to California’s flora, and it’s conditional permit caps anual visitors to a fraction of other botanical gardens. When you arrive you realize how lucky you are to be here.
