An unexpected card delivery from @lanasshop and this one was extra special to us!

Lana’s Shop was the 3rd greeting card company we ever reached out to, the first to respond, and the first company to take the time to meet with us when we were just getting started.

To receive this surprise delivery now, as we continue to grow, truly means so much.

Lana is not only a phenomenal artist, but an incredible person, and we are so honored to have her beautiful cards in our inventory. These cards will become part of something even bigger! Helping individuals facing terminal illness leave handwritten messages for the people they love.

Thank you, Lana’s Shop, for believing in our mission from the very beginning and for continuing to support us!

While my new Karoo Consulting HQ isn’t 100% ready for prime time just yet, the art is starting to be placed! This piece is one of my most meaningful because of how it came to be. The first Kenya FAM I hosted after my friend @anthonyrussellafrica passed away knew that I included a studio tour with him during Nairobi days, and that I had been mid-commission-collab with him at the time, so was feeling the loss even more deeply. As a thank you for the FAM, they came together and bought me one of his lion prints. WOW; THANK YOU! As I was meditating on where it should live, I saw my friend @josecortesphotography post about a collab he did with his own photography and @wamisigosolomon, the Kenyan artist who did the border work for @peterbeardart, and I was like, “YES!” (plus have always been obsessed with PB’s work as well.). I brought the print back to Kenya on my next trip, which was last Dec, delivered it to Solomon, gave him creative carte blanche, picked up this finished piece in April, framed it in June, and just hung it now. When I first showed my family, they also said the illustrations reminded them of illustrations by @lanasshop. The full expression of “it takes a village” for sure. This is what I will see every time I step into my new space, and will start the day thinking of my village, remembering those who are now eternal spirits, embracing the yin and yang of fierce and gentle, and being inspired to do the work I do, dedicated to a deep passion for Africa and all it creates for us. And yes, the print is of a male lion and the song is of a lioness … welcome to me, and hear me roar!

Pretty paper mail is my favorite kind of mail. 🤍

I was so excited to win a roll from @lanasshop — and of course I couldn’t resist ordering another one while I was at it!

Her papers are even prettier in person, and I couldn’t wait to put one to work. 🎁

There’s just something about beautiful paper + beautiful ribbon. ✨

Life + Work Lately 🌸

Getting back into the groove of school and sports, it’s been good.

Craig and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary with a quick Vail weekend escape. 10/10 recommend. @tavernettavail was wonderful. So was @thehythevail.

I visited @shegrowsgardens in Arvada, what a dream. How do y’all feel about Manofatto carrying some of their incredible lavender products?

New week! #makesomethingbeautiful

September sale starts now for our annual holiday card fundraiser. All orders need to be received by Oct 3 and will be available to ship in early Nov, in time for your Dec festive mailing. @johann_vanzyl, @lanasshop and I started offering our past holiday cards as a fundraiser because people were asking for them, and because there are so many important initiatives to support in Africa (last year resulted in USD $1000 donated to Solid’Africa in Rwanda; thanks to all who bought cards, and know that Johann and I match every dollar raised). We have also included an “Evergreen Africa” note card as well! If you would like more information on all of the illustrations, the costs, and the way to customize your cards, please DM me and I’ll send you the PDF of details (keep in mind the minimum order is only 50 cards and $1 from each card is donated).

You asked and we listened! 🎁😉

We’ve heard from quite a few of you that finding cute wrapping paper (or ANY wrapping paper!) around town can be a challenge, so we’re happy to now carry these adorable papers from Lana’s Shop!

Hand painted, printed, and packaged in Denver, these papers are perfect for birthdays, hostess gifts, holidays, or just because. Sometimes the gift is only half the fun - the wrapping paper should be pretty, too. ❤️
