Part 2 — continuing the tour of architect Gideon Gelber’s home and studio.

You are invited to join a tour and conversation with architect @GideonGelber and interior designer Shamika Lynch of @MaximizingTiny as they explore ideas about architecture, history, and the strange, beautiful process of building something new around something old.

Filmed earlier this spring in Metuchen, NJ at Gideon’s home and studio — a project that thoughtfully weaves together an 1860s farmhouse with contemporary additions, salvaged materials, and spaces designed for real living.

Exterior tour first — interior coming soon.

On a snowy December morning, these homes are dark, quiet—protecting what Frank Lloyd Wright once described as the beating heart of a house.

For Wright, the home existed to protect and dignify the life within. The hearth was never just functional; it was symbolic of warmth, gathering, and shelter.

A calibrated extension of the home.

This suburban landscape is conceived as an architectural counterpoint—shaping views, choreographing movement, and resolving site constraints through intentional planting. A grove of Honey Locusts forms a light, porous canopy, anchoring an outdoor gathering space and aligning with primary interior sightlines.

Rhythmically dispersed ginkgos act as spatial markers—punctuating thresholds and layering seasonal texture. Existing masonry walls, once rigid edges, are reinterpreted through masses of planting that mediate privacy, depth, and enclosure.

The result is a landscape that engages architecture as a spatial collaborator—integrating spaces within nature.

Where landscape becomes a living gallery.
⠀
This immersive design blurs the boundary between art, garden, and home—composed as a sequence of garden rooms, each with its own atmosphere and intention. Sculptural planting, curated materials, and quiet moments of pause elevate these spaces into meditative vignettes, inviting slow movement and reflection.
⠀
Here, the art doesn’t merely decorate the garden—it dialogues with it. Each piece is deliberately placed to resonate with the tones, textures, and topography of its surroundings. The landscape extends the language of the interiors outdoors, creating a cohesive narrative that is both tactile and experiential.
⠀
It’s not just a garden. It’s a spatial composition—where design, nature, and art converge.
