I applied for this fellowship with samples of the stage performance ‘Property’ which I developed in collaboration with @ironstonedance and with the short film ‘Das Ding’ which I wrote and directed.

I never imagined that sharing my story would lead me to becoming a recognized artist. 🎨✨

I’m incredibly honored to be selected as one of 66 Emerging Artist Fellows for the 2026–2027 California Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship!

Growing up in a low-income Vietnamese immigrant household, pursuing the arts wasn’t necessarily encouraged.

For much of my life, I never considered myself an artist.

5+ years ago, I started a podcast to share my mental health experiences after my late autism diagnosis, to connect with others, and find a sense of belonging.

Since then in 2024, I’ve intentionally invested more in storytelling as a creative practice, blending my disability and neurodiversity advocacy beyond just public speaking to journalism, creative writing, acting, and filmmaking.

From consulting on Blue’s Clues & You’s first autistic character, Lavender to writing and starring in my own short film @crosswalk.film this year!

What began as a journey of self-discovery has become a way to challenge narratives, amplify underrepresented voices, and foster the belonging I once searched for.

Somewhere along the way, I began to see myself not just as an advocate, but as an artist. 💛

A heartfelt thank you to @calartscouncil and @laperformancepractice for recognizing and investing in emerging artists!

I’m excited to continue growing, exploring new creative possibilities, and bringing more stories to life.

Here’s to taking creative risks and embracing nonlinear multihyphenate paths! 💫
