“Zinnia” by Lara Knutson (Part-time Lecturer in the School of Constructed Environments) will be featured at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan in April 2025. Crafted with her patented 3D Light technology where light itself looks like it’s floating in space, Zinnia is named after the first flower grown in space. It emits an otherworldly glow, appearing like a luminous, touchable cloud—a fusion of innovation and ethereal beauty.

Special thanks to Lara’s team: Eric Beam, Ravi Varma, ML Kirchner and Darryl Do (Photography by Bill Kontzias).

The work is derived from Lara’s Masters thesis at Pratt in 2010-2011, under the advisement of Bruce Hannah.
