THERE IS CRUDE OIL WASHING UP INTO THE LA RIVER AGAIN

its been almost 2 months since the oil spill in Boyle Heights and looks like they did not do a very good job at finishing up the clean up in our drainage systems which means that all that oil still on our pipes... and when it rains... where do you think its going to go
Our river, our beaches, our environment.

And this is the same site where all that nasty water from the warehouse has been coming out of, YUCK

This is absolutely unacceptable and adding insult to injury. When will the river catch a break? Fortunately no rain anytime soon and hope they can clean it up in time but for now traces of oil are washing up into the river

Have called the LAFD and someone has been sent out to investigate as of 9:29pm.

Last Sunday, I led production for @lariverarts’ inaugural River Solstice Festival, a free festival celebrating the longest day of the year along the LA River.

After 3 months of artist & vendor coordination, programming, permit logistics (chile 😅), site visits, and more spreadsheets than I can count, we finally got to see it all come to life.

I love festival production because it’s equal parts logistics, problem-solving, and care. Bringing those skills to a festival here in LA—and alongside so much of my own community—made this one especially meaningful.

Thank you to @noonprojects for being my partner in ideation, to @livingearth.la for saying my name in the room before I even entered it, and to @neaarts and @culture_la for helping make this work possible.

Endless gratitude to our artists, performers, volunteers, day-of staff, vendors, community partners, and everyone who came out to celebrate the river with us.

We had a great time tabling at the #lariver solstice hosted by @lariverarts. 🏞️

🥗There was food, music, art, theatre and community sharing the same green space. 🎶🎨🎭

People were excited to learn more about the 100 acres of new park projects emerging on the other side of the river at Taylor Yard. 🚉🌳

We’re reminded that for a city to be healthy, there must be park equity. 🙌🏾

Everyone deserves open green space close to home where they can thrive in place. 🏡

Still buzzing from the LA River Festival on Sunday! It was such a special day and I’m incredibly grateful to Ryan @noonprojects and everyone at @lariverarts for the opportunity!! Thank you so much. You all nailed it!!

The Body Is a River (for Susan Griffin) pulls from drawings that layer medical scans of my mother, myself, and my daughter. The imagery shifts between body and map, where veins, river channels, tributaries, and anatomical pathways share a visual language.

The work questions the reduction of the body to data, re-centering lived experience as a form of knowledge that can exceed empirical measurement. This idea also extends to the LA landscape, where mapping, management, and development can shape how restoration is imagined.

The title draws from Susan Griffin’s Woman and Nature: The Roaring Inside Her, which frames body and land as intimate, historical, and living. Both hold memory. Both register violence. Both become sites of repair.

For River Assembly, the flag links personal and inherited experience to ecological systems of flow, damage, and renewal.
