Hispanic Heritage Month isn’t just a celebration; it’s a reclaiming 🧡

Art has always been one of the most powerful ways to preserve culture, pass down stories, and make sure history doesn’t get erased or forgotten. It’s how traditions survive generations, how identity gets honored instead of flattened, and how communities see themselves reflected - fully, complexly, and beautifully - in ways that words alone can’t always capture.

That’s the heart behind Sin Fronteras. Our exhibit brings together 11 incredible Hispanic women artists, each with her own story, medium, and lens - from ancestral pigments and woven traditions to portraits of identity, resilience, and community. Together, their work doesn’t tell one single story of what it means to be Hispanic. It tells eleven of them, because culture was never meant to be one thing.

Sin Fronteras means « without borders»
No single narrative. No single medium. No single definition of what Hispanic heritage looks like today.

This month, we celebrate not just where we come from, but everywhere our stories continue to go 🎨✨

Shop the collection online now or come experience it in person on Friday, September 25th, 6:30-9:30pm 📍 @thecathedralatx

Laura Clay Robson || “My work is abstract yet deeply personal, blending organic textures with geometric structure to create compositions that explore identity, movement, and transformation.”

Laura Clay is a Mexican-American artist based in Austin, specializing in painting and drawing. Her abstract paintings feature gradients, textures, and a balance between organic and geometric forms, reflecting her exploration of bicultural identity and the tension between chaos and order. She creates her own handmade paints and uses high-quality materials, including architectural pens and archival paper, to craft detailed fine-line drawings. She holds an MFA from the National Art School in Sydney, Australia, a BFA from Texas Christian University, and has studied fine art at Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She also completed a year at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, D.C., now part of George Washington University. Her work has been acquired by Mexic-Arte Museum for its permanent collection and has been featured in publications such as Eastside Magazine. With over 60 exhibitions and art fairs worldwide, she is currently represented by Washington Gallery Waco and The Cathedral ATX. Through abstraction, Laura’s work navigates themes of displacement, balance, and identity, offering an immersive exploration of form and cultural narrative.

Meet Laura Clay - another one of our 11 talented featured artists in our Sin Fronteras exhibit for Hispanic Heritage Month. 🎨✨

Before dawn in Valenciana, Guanajuato, Laura rides on horseback with her father to gather cochineal from wild cacti - the same insects Indigenous artisans in Mexico have used for deep red dye for thousands of years. She carries that pigment back to her studio in Austin, alongside powders from a small apothecary in Venice and raw minerals from the red dirt of Australia.
Hand-milled onto raw linen and jute, each material carries its own memory, refined and humble at once, with every imperfection left visible beneath the paint, mirroring the variations that make us who we are.

This is the foundation of her Compartment series: an exploration of identity as interconnected rooms, each holding its own history, giving shape to the parts of ourselves that usually stay unseen.

Every material is a decision. Every decision is a story. ✨

Laura's work is on view now 🔥 Shop online or get tickets to meet her & see her pieces in person | Friday, September 25th - 6:30-9:30pm 📍 @thecathedralatx

Our first ever Create A Smile with @lauraclayart 💙

Our teens had an amazing time creating memories together, exploring their creativity, and discovering new ways to express themselves through art. 🎨

We also have a special surprise: In collaboration with @lauraclayart, @sarahlucilleart, and our Austin Smiles teens, we created a special artwork representing transformation—a reflection of the growth, strength, and journeys of our cleft community.

The artwork will be up for auction at our 40th Anniversary Wish Upon A Smile Gala. Stay tuned for a closer look at the artwork!
