Calling all artists and creatives!! CASP is hosting its 2nd annual April Arts Marathon to raise funds for asylum seekers living in Southern Vermont!

Throughout the month of April, artists will commit to practicing and digitally sharing their work five days a week with sponsors (friends, family members, and community members) who pledge donations to CASP—turning daily creativity into critical community support.

The sky’s the limit – poems, essays, non-fiction, stories, sketches, paintings, photographs, fabric art, multimedia, music, multi-genre pieces – anything is possible. Create an original piece each day or create an accumulative art piece and share your progress. All contributions go towards providing for asylum seekers' basic needs and accompanying them on their journey to building a life in Vermont.

Spend April making art, sharing your process, and raising funds in support of asylum seekers. Interested in participating or sponsoring?

This spring, the CASP @casp.vt May Art Marathon raised $30,800 in support of their work on behalf of asylum seekers in Southern Vermont, who have fled violence, war, and other factors occurring in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, Russia, and Afghanistan! Your support helps CASP provide housing, basic living expenses, and legal fees for their clients, along with assisting with transportation, schooling, healthcare, and other needs. We currently help 60 asylum seekers living in Southern Vermont.

25 participating artists developed works in progress, or created new works in a wide range of media, which they shared online with donors who sponsored them five to seven days a week.

The ‘Out of the Every Day’ exhibition showcases the diverse media, styles, and talent of 17 CASP May Art Marathon fundraiser participants and CASP artist supporters. Media represented in the selections include; drawing and painting from life, ink, oil, woodworking, abstract painting, experimental assemblage, calligraphy, mathematical research, poetry, pencil portraiture and more.

The CASP May Art Marathon centered daily creative practice as a way to not just raise funds for asylum seekers, but also to bring community together through the exploration and appreciation of beauty and creativity. Sharing creative work offers connection and inspiration, and an opportunity for reinvigoration of the spirit, especially now when there is such great need for connection and for community care. Out of their commitment to creative work every day during the marathon, each of the artists brought attention to that which is essential— committing to each other every day, and staying committed to beauty and creativity as a lifeline in troubled times.

We cannot thank our volunteer artists enough for their dedication and hard work!

Part 1:
Thank you all so much for your support! I love seeing all of your photos!
The Bette and Tina 4 Ever photo was taken from the inside of the car sweeping Kate, Leisha, Kelly Lynch, Ilene and I to the premiere of TLW S2. I drew the image on the condensation of the car window and photographed it to keep it safe in my memory. It wasn’t completely dark outside, but I had to push the Tri-X a solid two stops, so the image is super grainy. When I made the shirt for myself, I liked the b&w; I liked that it wasn’t a clear advertisement for a couple dear to my heart, it was more of an iykyk kind of thing. An insider’s handshake. I love that so many of you get that. 💛
