On view at Unseen: Laura Hospes at Unbound — Laura Hospes has made her body, and more precisely her skin, the most faithful ally of a performative practice, successor to the paths opened in the 1970s. Celebrating it for its organic functions and the rol it plays in her personal psychic structuring, Hospes uses her skin as a material, more precisely as a sensitive surface whose uses she sublimates through envelopment or constraint. For the filmed performance “No Man’s Land” (2022, presented by @langart_nl), Hospes progressively frees her plaster-covered body-totem for a physical as well as psychological exposure, questioning the limits of intimacy and the viewer’s gaze in front of this ritualized experience. During Unseen, Hospes also performed live in Unbound.

Unbound (@UnboundFoundation) is Unseen’s most ambitious section, dedicated to boundary breaking photography projects crossing over into installation art, sculpture, digital art, virtual reality and performances art, often on a monumental scale. This year’s edition was curated by @DamariceAmao.

Mirror of Self @hangar.photoartcenter

23 artists are exhibited at Hangar on the theme of self-portrait. Among them, 8 are under 30 years old.

What is the current standing of the self-portrait in the world of contemporary photography? In the realm of selfies, what does the artistic practice of self-portrait still hold? Through various projects and artistic approaches, ‘Mirror of Self’ questions the representation of the self, whether in a quest for identity, a relationship with one's environment, with others or with oneself.

Laura Hospes ( @laurahospes ) is reclaiming her skin and body by obsessively using it as her subject of research. She crosses the psychical space that arises in a state of detachment, through photography, sculpture, video, performance and text.

Laura Hospes' (@laurahospes ) work deals with the body, the unavoidable presence that defines the self in space and through which we know external reality. At the core of her practice is an intricate, intimate and yet ever-expanding relation with her own body, and more in detail with her skin. Researching physicality, subjectivity and the boundaries of the self through different medias, the skin will be the subject of her work during Edition#1: Mid-Air.

The Raw Cases Edition#1: Mid-Air is taking place in the form of an artist residency at @doordordrecht starting next week.
Open studio 27-28 Nov. Come visit us to see more about the each artist practice and processes!
