Go All In with Poetry: Themed 5-Poem Playlists for Home & School

Every week from National Poetry Day until the end of the National Year of Reading, we’re sharing a new 5-poem collection on children’s favourite themes to give teachers and parents an easy, inspiring gateway into reading poetry!

Laura Mucha is an award-winning poet and author, and Author-in-Residence at the University of Cambridge’s Department of Public Health and Primary Care. Her playlist is themed on Fear!

Here, she shares her poem about the Japanese Spider Crab, which is born absolutely tiny but then grows into a huge spidery creature in the deep sea!

To read the rest of her selections, check out the blogs across our websites on National Poetry Day, National Literacy Trust and Macmillan!

Oh là là, quelle histoire ! ~ Laura Mucha & Marc Boutavant 📚

Petit Ours veut simplement lire son livre, mais les personnages de contes s’invitent les uns après les autres pour goûter son porridge. Une chouette histoire qui détourne avec humour les contes classiques.

What a wonderful way to celebrate Poetry Day’s theme of ‘Wonder’! We were delighted to welcome renowned poet Laura Mucha to Parkgate House – @lauramucha inspired every child from our Nursery to Prep 6 through a range of joyful, energetic and creative workshops. From sharing ‘Porridge Please!’ with our youngest learners to guiding older pupils through the process of creating their own poems, Laura brought poetry to life and filled Parkgate with imagination, curiosity and creativity. Thank you, Laura!

It’s time to face your fears, explore anxiety and get curious about scary animals!

Every animal speaks for itself in its own poem, some co-written with real school classes. Written by @lauramucha, illustrated by @hannahpeckillustration and published with @hachettechildrens.
