@utmbmontblanc A year on I still think it's mad that I was able to finish this race

Now back in Chamonix as a spectator, I get to watch other people try and do the same and I wish them all the best.

It will feel hard. It's supposed to. It's going to feel hard but there will be a moment where it will all feel possible and all of the work that you put in will feel worthwhile. Just trust the process and trust the training.

I believe in you.

- Don't go out too fast the race starts at Courmayuer.
- Low mood. Eat food
- Take care of the small things and the big things will take care of themselves
- it will feel hard it's supposed to!

FAILURE MODE: try to salvage what you can.

Start went to plan, started brisk and settled into my racing heart rate. By 15k I felt pretty happy. I was surprised when I hit 30k, was starting to feel the work but that's what I was expecting.

Out of checkpoint 3, with a glass or cup of Red Ambulance, I could feel the chest and throat getting tight and I pulled back quite a bit, hoping I'd be able to recover with a few puffs of my inhaler.

Out of checkpoint 4 I completely hit the wall and by 50k my race had turned into a death march.

I knew the cold/virus I had 10 days ago was going to have some impact but just hoping that I would have enough to at least get to 60k before it really started to sting. It is what it is; we are where we are. Looking forward to my next race.

Being in Chamonix for UTMB week, under the watchful eye of Mont Blanc, will always be special.

Aside from the UTMB circus (which was noticeably bigger since I was last there in 2023), you’ll still find the runners, of all abilities, pushing themselves to their absolute limit and beyond to achieve what very few will.

For many, years of hard work and dedication has gone into that dream - standing on a UTMB start line ready to give it their all.

The collective appreciation for how hard these races are brings everyone in Chamonix together in a way rarely seen in day to day life. Total strangers cheering on total strangers through the day and night.

Big up all those who toed a start line and dared to dream.

Special shoutout to my guy @simbarashe for completing the big loop 🙌

The weekend feels like a million years ago—but what a brilliant return to the mountains. Tools sharpened. Legs tested. Still slow down the Pyg ⛰️, but felt fast up Watkins!

2.5km of vert in the legs, 75% of the course recced, and the mandatory kit put to work 🎒. Fueling’s getting dialled in desperately want to avoid last year's disaster!

Leaned into how to manage my asthma, the race starts with a 1000m climb, I have made the mistake of going out too hard! But I think I figured a few things out, bit by bit, the puzzle is coming together.

The Hope Valley Round is a challenging 20-mile loop in the Peak District, beginning and ending in Hathersage, that takes in several prominent peaks

It was an honour and a privilege to be invited to Chamonix for the ultimate Ultra Trail Mont Blanc @utmb mountain trail experience and race by fellow Queen and all things brilliant @sabrunsmiles! A week in the mountains and breathing in the clean mountain air, and mingling with the trail elite!

Raced on the Tuesday 27/8, 15km run into the mountains with 1.2k metres of elevation!
As if that wasn’t enough, next day joined the Ciele Athletics for a shake out run which was fab. Lots of goodies! Couple of days later took a hike up the mountain again to cascade du Dard waterfall which was epic. Treated ourselves to some beverages by the waterfall cafe, couldn’t wish for a better view.

Next day took a trip to Annecy, oh my, what a beauty. I will be back there in a flash.
Hang out with @alpinerunproject sponsored by @nike and watched a film of their UTMB journey. Couldn’t help but shed a tear! Got acquainted with some awesome young people from cities and introduced to the trails. The joy! Still trying to take it in tbh.

Our fellow @blacktrailrunners athlete @simbarashe took on the 100 miler. Not his day so DNF but I have no doubt that has lit some fire in his belly. We will be back to crew if called upon!

One thing I know is we shook up UTMB, represented and gave trail and mountain running food for thought about inclusion and participation. We will be back! 🖤. @blacktrailrunners
