Revealing the six animators for our first ever Animated Women residency... 📣 🌟

We’re so proud to share the six animators who will develop feature film projects through our new programme, Animated Women.

Thanks to the @britishfilminstitute National Lottery Creative Challenge Fund, Animated Women will provide animators the space, support and resources to scale their ideas - from concept to screen.

Over seven months, our cohort will take part in mentoring sessions, a residential lab at Sea Change Film Festival, and a project showcase at @movesummit 2027.

Head to the link in bio to learn more about our fantastic cohort! ⬆️

Thank you to everyone who attended the Freelance Toolkit panel at Cardiff Animation Film Festival !!

It was great talking to Sian Gale, Zoran Jancovic and Hannah Lau-Walker about the difficulties (and joys) of navigating a freelance career.

Sian Gale of @cultcymru shared resources for freelancers starting out, especially from the business side of things. You can find out more here : https://cult.cymru/en/

Understanding that as freelancers we’re basically small businesses has helped me a lot in the past few years. Other fantastic resources I’d recommend are @motionhatch @Thegoodshipillustration @theaoi.

As seen in the photos, the festival was a whirlwind of fun.

Sand animation workshop, Sketch showdown, DOG life drawing, animating on paper with the legendary @joannaquinn, fantastic screenings. And also free vegan lunch everyday.

I had such a swell time meeting friends old and new (too many to name, but this is you !!)

Special shout out to local legends @philbrookesuk, @daniabram and @laurenormefilms . We met at Encounters Festival 8 years ago, and it’s been a privilege to witness everyone’s growth. So happy to finally come hang out on their home turf 🤩.

#onthisday in 2021, the Christmas film we created with @jmcreativetv first aired on @s4c!

Featuring the animals of Wales getting up to antics during the covid lockdowns. As well as this 60' film, we created a whole suite of idents, break bumpers, and promo end boards, which ran throughout December on S4C.

Huge credit to:
for Picl Animation – Lauren Orme, Connor Jones, Otto Taylor-Rickard, Stephen Thomas, Dani Abram, Bethan Price, David Young, Briar White, Kornelia Urbaniak, Louise Lovekin;
for JM Creative – John Morgan and Tony Lakin;
for S4C – Huw Derfel, Owain Morgan-Jones and all the team.

Such a fun project 🐐 🦭 🐦 🎄
