🍻 "Business casual bar fare" is the shorthand at Nobody’s Business, which opened in September in downtown Austin as a casual venture from some of the folks behind Comedor and Via 313. 🍔 The Crispy Fish Sandwich ($16) is a massive, 10 napkin affair, with a super-crisp, craggly batter and an extra-buttery, toasted bun. 🐟 The fish itself has a prominent earthy and distinctly fishy flavor — Gulf Coast-y, let’s call it — rather than the clean, mild white-flaky character some might expect, but there’s no denying the sheer scale of the sandwich. The Tallow Fries ($6) are standard pub fries, doing their supporting role without much fuss. 🍟 🌯 The rest of the menu stays comfortably within the Austin bar-food universe, with a cheeseburger, Buffalo chicken wrap and baby back ribs alongside a chilled noodle bowl with shrimp, snapper and pineapple. There’s also a po’ boy nod to the former Turf N’ Surf kitchen that previously occupied the space. It’s inside a sports bar, so a tried-and-true quarter-sheet pan of Nacho Business ($14) is probably the right play for a group. 🚨 BRAND NEW BAR FOOD 🚨 @nobodysaustin is, of course, more than bar food 😂 but I gotta try and grab some attention QUICK here on IG This new concept has taken over for the beloved @turfnsurfpoboy at the OG @lavacastreetbar downtown It’s a project two Austin entities are tag teaming; @philipspeer of @comedortx • @comedorrunclub • @garagepizzatx / @garagetx and Brandon Hunt of @via313pizza (amongst other projects) came together to put out a menu that was reminiscent of what was here before but a little more refined 🤟 I thought the prices were fair given the quantity, quality, and location - the nachos were giant and for $20 could easily feed 2-3 adult dudes drinking @lonestarbeer or @stillatx while watching some games today The most “chefy” thing, I think, was the Blue Corn Masa Hush Puppies. Ya get 5 of them for $9 and they’re excellent 💪 The burger is immediately a top contender - it’s not overly complicated, it leans much more on nostalgia done with quality ingredients and execution. I loved my chicken wrap, it’s great for grab n go, it’s filling & rich without being heavy (goals tbh) My lovely lady enjoyed her salad, inspired by Midwest pizza spots throwing everything for a great pizza right on top of some gorgeous greens 😂 While I’ll always have a soft (maybe clogged) spot in my heart for Turf n Surf - Phillip & Brandon have taken the torch and kept the taste at one of Austin’s great sports bars.
