From Echo Park, Audrey Siu highlights why L.A. Waterkeeper is supporting Measure PRK, because investing in L.A. parks is also an investment in the health of our communities, waterways, and coast.

PRK will double funding for L.A. parks without any new taxes, helping to keep water clean by reducing trash and debris in waters that ultimately reach our beaches, and allowing for nature-based solutions and stormwater capture projects! Vote #YesonPRK by November 3rd!

Measure PRK will protect waters and beaches!

Investing in our parks means improving, maintaining, and creating more green spaces that provide shade, support native plants and nature-based solutions, and protect our beaches and waters from trash and pollution!

By November 3rd, vote #YesonPRK to double parks funding in L.A.- with no new taxes!

High tides and hurricane winds... We anticipated high tide would was down a lot of trash. It did. We knew a hurricane was coming, too. It did. We stayed out plucking plastic about 20 minutes too long and got caught in hurricane winds to where we couldn't move forward at all. That has never happened to us before. We had to turn away and land on a different beach than where we launched, walk to get our car and drive around to pick up our kayaks and our trash haul. Lesson learned: no matter how much you want to keep cleaning, you can't keep picking up trash when you're in the path of a hurricane.

LOS ANGELES: VOTE YES FOR PARKS FUNDING 🌳🗳️

The LA City Charter Amendment Measure PRK is not a new tax. What it is: a transformational funding formula correction that would double the city’s budget for the Department of Rec and Parks. This is CRUCIAL to revitalize our collapsing park system.

We need as many voices and votes behind Measure PRK as possible. Tell a friend to tell a friend and let’s get this across the finish line on November 3rd. Angelenos deserve thriving, well-maintained, accessible, and joyful public spaces 🛝🌳💧

During the summer, @csa_lmu reached out to see if we’d like to be a part of their signature Serve LA event in the fall

Their goal was to offer more service sites, get more Lions out, and see if we could increase our LMU impact across the LA area (all in one day!) 🦁🏙️🛣️🚐💨

Thanks to our alumni connections, we were able to line up two new sites:
1) Water testing at the LA River with @lawaterkeeper and @patagoniapasadena 💧🧪🧫
2) Beach cleanup in Santa Monica with @surfriderla and our own student club @surfriderlmu 🌊🥤♻️

After Hurricane Marie, this was a great way for us to start giving our beaches and waterways some love

Overall, we ended up having close to 75 Lions giving back throughout the LA area at 4 different sites:
- North East LA: Park restoration at @ascothillsparkla
- South East LA: River assessment testing at the LA River
- Venice: Gardening at @venicelearninggarden
- Santa Monica: Beach clean up and data collecting at SM Beach

Thanks so much CSA for inviting us to be a part of this, and huge shoutout to everyone who came to be Lions For and With Others!!

—
If you’re looking to do more service next weekend and hit the beach, OAR and CSA will be heading to Dockweiler Beach on Saturday, 9/19 for Coastal Cleanup Day:
- Beach cleanup ♻️
- Beach hang 🏖️
- Surf lessons 🏄
