Song 7 & 8 - Break Away (piano) & Break Away (dance / club version).
Part 1 of 1
Sharing the journey of writing and producing:
“Break Away” song.

Slowly falls apart
Breaking my own heart
Pretend to be a part
Of a world
I’d rather be
Out of the abyss
I wasn’t made for this
It’s time to find my bliss
As I head south out to sea
Away from the city
I’m just being me.

Do you sometimes feel like you are a part of a society that doesn’t fulfill you?
Something is missing?
Perhaps you just need a little break away to reset and adjust. Break Away lyrics convey being true to yourself and escaping away with our closest friends to reconnect with ourselves and each other. Taking in fresh air and natures beauty by the sea…
Finding our happy place.
I had written Break Away as a ballad about letting go of expectations and breaking the chains of generational pains.
Taking a moment to escape from day to day life.
A couple of times a year, I drive down south to a beautiful spot, to spend quality time with my 2 closest friends and exhale. In essence this song is dedicated to them….
I first discovered the wonderfully talented, Nicola playing an acoustic set at my local shopping centre. I snapped a pic of her advertised instagram handle and then reached out to her via message, explaining the general narrative of film and the upcoming soundtrack.
I told her I was looking for a female vocalist who could play an instrument to help me with composing this beautiful song. Turns out, Nicola also played piano!
Nicola sent me back a beautiful demo, which we recorded with Producer - Jono Fernandez.
Nicola did such a wonderful job bringing this song as a ballad to life, we decided we’d also like to produce a (dance / club) version which features in a couple of scenes, throughout the @myinnerchild_film

Don’t forget to take some time to Break Away…

Song 5 & 6 - Part 2
Illusion & Illusion (acoustic)

The world is on its axis
Sell our souls to
Pay our taxes
Where did we go wrong
It’s an illusion
Don’t buy their lies

It seemed the lyrics found Curtis at just the right time….. Interesting, how the planets align.

Please welcome Curtis to the chat.

“Illusion” explores the contrast between childhood nostalgia and the emotional fatigue of adulthood.
Reminding us to break free of expectations and not forget our inner child. This sentiment, ironically, leads into the next song I wrote, Break Away.

The official Illusion music video will be released after it has completed its music video festival run.
Wishing us all luck! May this song and music video gain the recognition and traction it deserves.

Song 5 & 6 - Part 1
Illusion & Illusion (acoustic)

Part 1:
Sharing the journey of writing and producing:

“Illusion” song.

Working 6 days to get 1
Keep your head down
Work hard
When you retire
You’ll have fun
They’re always wanting
More from you
Shackles on your hands
Until your 72

For Illusion, the lyrics flowed pretty easily.
I wrote this in one afternoon.

By then I had the confidence to share my writing with someone I’d never met.
I put a call out on the Sydney casting pages.

For this particular song, I was looking for an earnest, raw, honest storyteller, a singer / songwriter.
Someone who could play acoustic guitar.
That’s when Curtis Finch was tagged in my post by a friend of his…..

The first thing Curtis messaged when he read my draft lyrics was:
“Did you write this for me?’

The Illusion lyrics and thoughts, subsequently contributed to some major themes and scenes in the film.

I couldn’t have released this song without the talent and mentorship of: @curtisfinch.music @jonofernandezproduction

Song 4 - Part 1
Hide & Seek

“This is my life, take a peek.”
“It’s looking like rinse, repeat, 7 days of the week.”

As I began to write my notes for this song, I thought back to my days in corporate;
The groundhog days;
Deep down knowing, this wasn’t the right environment for me.

There had to be something more….

I sent my notes to Lawrence, once again.
It was then I discovered on top of all of his other creative skills, he could rap too!
Lawrence contributed a lot to the lyrics for this particular song.

I had recently worked with Clara Helms.
Clara played the character Emily in Bonded by Blue (my first short film as Writer /Producer / Director).
Clara also sung background vocals on Those Memories (track 3).

I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to have a rap / opera blend?!

Clara agreed to join Lawrence on the Hide & Seek track.

You may recognize Lawrence from; the State of origin ads, The sleeping duck, Kennards, Step One ads, many voice over ads and most recently, Lawrence played the role of “Nigel” In the channel 7 Logie award winning series RFDS.

Welcome to the chat Lawrence….

Strangers In A Carpark. A glimpse of the EPK I made for the film. Whilst working on @thewatervillage at the moment, I want to revel and celebrate this project, that could only be pulled off by the director himself @stuartmcbratney with all the amazing UON students as our crew.

We released this film in 2025, and luckily got picked up by @channel9 this year. Aussies, this is for you. 🤍🇦🇺

It's also available on some streaming platforms if you want to watch it. :)

Song 4 - Part 2
Hide & Seek

The lyric topic becoming the premise of the film -
“Adults questioning their life choices, wondering where the time has gone.”

The song opens with themes of a repetitive daily routine, societal expectations.
Pressure to conform and appease others. Contrasting public persona with private reality.

Ultimately, we created a music video for Hide & Seek, which then helped me write some major scenes with both Lawrence and Clara becoming integral characters in the My Inner Child film.

A special shout out to our cinematographer @jayseeney for going along with another one of my wild and zany visions for this music video.

Thanks to all of our characters and different actors / extras who appeared in this quirky music video, some of whom became characters in the feature film.

The Hide & Seek music video available on my YouTube channel), portrays a corporate who works so hard, she falls asleep and struggles with the realm between reality and hallucination, being so exhausted and overworked.

In the music video, Lawrence plays a work colleague “Bo” morphing into a rapper, schooling the corporate character, “Michelle.”
Clara, a literal angel, portraying a prominent figure from Michelle’s past trying to guide her in the right direction.

I am extremely grateful we were recognized on the film festival circuit for this music video, winning a few awards. Most significantly “Best Rap” season category for the film festival;
Europe music video awards. We were so stoked to receive this, along with other awards, recognition for all of our hard work.

I had a topline sitting on my hard drive for a while that I thought I'd pair with a cool acoustic track made by @jaxtrax_acoustic_karaoke I found on youtube.

I wrote this around the feeling of being in a fast car, watching everything colliding, merging together - almost a sense of infinity.

Tonnes more stuff gathering dust in the vault - need to get a move on and finish and refine them all.
