POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

From the deeply personal to the beautifully unexpected, one week ago Carte Blanche 2026 brought eight original works to the stage, each shaped by the imagination, individuality and artistic vision of our dancers.

An evening that moved between emotions, challenged perspectives and lingered long after the final curtain.

Our sincere thanks to all who joined us and made this evening of all the more meaningful by sharing it with us.

In Greek mythology an Oread is a nymph of the mountains or hills.

Plémont, as in the location of these photos, translates to 'folded hill'

Carte Blanche | Behind The Curtain: Episode One

“Donna” - a duet choreographed and performed by Layla May Bruce and Roman Ho Zimbalatti.

Inspired by the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo and ancient Greek material, the duet explores the vulnerability of encountering someone of a higher power; a perspective on a distinct relationship that can occur in everyday life.

Set to Joan Baez’s 1960 recording “Donna Donna”, alongside snippets of waves from our island.

What were our dancers up to this week? ☀️✈️

While the company enjoys a well-earned summer break, we’re catching up with our dancers and discovering how they’re spending their time away from the studio.

This week, Layla Bruce has been making the most of her summer travels, enjoying a road trip through North Croatia and across the beautiful Krk Island.
From exploring new places and taking in the stunning Croatian coastline to spending quality time with loved ones, Layla has been embracing the chance to slow down, recharge and make the most of her summer away from the studio.

After a busy season, these moments away offer a wonderful opportunity to rest, explore and create memories before returning to the stage. We hope you’re having a wonderful summer, Layla! ❤️

As another remarkable season has come to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect with gratitude on everything we’ve shared together.

From the Jersey Opera House stage to performances beneath the open sky, the intensity of rehearsals to the quiet moments behind the scenes, every production has been made possible by an extraordinary community of people who believe in the power of dance.

To our dancers, artistic and production teams, musicians, creative collaborators, community performers, supporters, sponsors and every member of the wider Ballet d’Jèrri family, thank you.

To our audiences, thank you for joining us, returning time and again, and sharing in each story we tell. Your encouragement, curiosity and support allow us to continue bringing world-class dance to our island and beyond.

As we look back on moments from Ballet at the Opera House, Ballet in the Park, Black Dog Noir, rehearsals and everything in between, we’re reminded that a season is about so much more than the performances themselves. It’s about the people who bring them to life.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We look forward to welcoming you back for another season of creativity, collaboration and unforgettable moments.

Last week, we were honoured to welcome Déborah Livet and Pauline Petit from the Opéra de Rouen to Jersey for a visit to our studios.

During their time with us, they observed class and spent time getting to know Ballet d’Jèrri, offering a wonderful opportunity to share our work and connect with two accomplished professional artists. It was a privilege to welcome them into our studios, exchange ideas, and showcase the passion and dedication of our dancers.

We are incredibly grateful to Déborah and Pauline for taking the time to visit us. We look forward to welcoming them back to Jersey later this year and to continuing to build this wonderful relationship.
