The Sunday Paper is one of the pieces of work I most enjoy D&D. Deliberately, I’ve always kept an arm’s length from the editing, leaving it in the capable hands of our brilliant editors. For me, it’s an opportunity to discover new creatives and reconnect with why we do what we do. When we decided to relaunch it after a year-long pause, I sheepishly pitched an idea to Lea: a business column. Not the market & industry analysis of a traditional Sunday paper, but the realities of building a brand; the decisions, challenges and details that rarely get talked about. Thankfully, she said yes and helped bring the first piece to life. I interviewed someone I know rather well in bed and answered one of the questions we’re asked most often: how do you actually work together?

“With everything happening in our region right now, and with my Lebanon bleeding, I had to pause and reflect on what our work truly means. After almost 10 years, and after digging through our archives, one thing is certain and has always remained: we’ve always done this for the community. Looking back at our shoots, we’re so proud of the number of Arab creatives we’ve been able to work with, truly brilliant photographers @bachar.srour from day 1, @yasminahilal_ , @myriamboulos , @hadyafif , @hassanhajjaj_larache , @hasanbitirim , @dawid_rus , makeup artists (our dear @sharbelhasbany from day 0, designers… We’ve always had to push back to make our voices heard. We’re not advertisers’ favorites; we’re a bit too bold and too loud. But despite the challenges and our clear stances, we’ve kept going. We’re not perfect; we’re a work in progress. But one thing is certain: we are authentic. Pausing content at a time like this wasn’t even something we had to think twice about. We’d like to take this moment to remind you: please donate to Lebanon. Please consider skipping one flat white to help people in urgent need. When it comes to leisurely Sundays, pyjama brand @desmondanddempsey have them down to an art. Their quarterly tabloid is a delight for the “Sunday voyeur,” as @leacasini writes in her perfectly egg-shaped editor’s letter. Because “if you really want to know someone, you need to get a taste of their Sundays.” In this month’s issue, they spend the weekend with painter @clara.cebrian, @casa.lawa founder @lukasfrompoland, and soup connoisseur @sssssoupsssss. Free with all orders, it’s “made to be digested over breakfast, at brunch and when you’re back in bed. Obviously, on a Sunday.”
