Debut marathon — 4:37:38 for @learning.ong ! 🫶

Marathons are hard, and taking on the Maybank course for your first one makes this even more impressive.

Couldn’t be prouder! I have no doubt this is just the beginning, with plenty more PBs to come. 🚀

Maybank Marathon

FarUbud @far.ubud ,

Maybank Marathon is one of the most well-known marathons in Southeast Asia, held on the island of Bali and part of the World Athletics Elite Label Road Race series. The course runs through Balinese villages, rice fields, and local areas of Gianyar. The climbs, descents, and constant changes in elevation never let you fully relax.

For me, this was one of the more challenging marathons — the combination of the terrain, elevation gain, and high tropical humidity definitely made itself felt. The start was very early, at 4:20 AM, so that most of the distance could be covered before the heat and humidity began to put serious pressure on the body.

Maybank Marathon turned out to be more than just a marathon — it was another test of my limits. A great experience: a completely new course and places I had never visited or run through before.

Thank you to the people of Bali for such a warm welcome. The atmosphere here is completely different — truly special and hard to compare with anywhere else.

FarUbud @far.ubud, it was great meeting you! 🤝🏻🇮🇩

5th marathon, 3rd one this year. Moving forward 🚀

Maybank Marathon 2026 is a wrap! What an incredible run with a bunch of amazing friends! I set another HM PB today despite still having a ferritin level of 10, and Ray managed to complete his first FM. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 we owe this to @jackahearncoaching for his amazingly flexible and individual coaching.
@far.ubud did it again!! They came all the way south to cheer and support us! Thank you @igor.nowhere for organizing. We are so lucky to call you a friend! 🫶🏼 phew what an incredible day!

Season 1 of FAR Ubud closed the only way it could: Ubud Backyard Ultra, marking 1 year of running together as a run club.

More than 80 runners. 5k loops, sunrise to sunset, again and again. 403 loops, over 2000km, combined together. Thanks @_dj.moves for tracking the numbers🙌

I'm still processing it. Not just the backyard ultra, the whole year.

A year ago I didn't believe anyone would show up. This time, I was confident enough to plan a backyard ultra. That's not a small shift.

It mirrors what I've watched happen with so many of you. Runners who hesitated to finish their first 5k on Wednesday are now doing half marathon distances on Sunday long runs like they were born in running shoes. I evolved the same way. As a host, learning to trust myself and trust you enough to let you push your own limits, while still being able to call it in real time.

This community co-created itself. Hari Lari became our basecamp for the backyard ultra. Utama Spice, run by FAR runners themselves, joined naturally to give everyone a recovery space along the way. None of that was planned from the top down. It just grew.

Hosting and running at the same time is tricky. But I think you need both hats to host well.

What I'll remember most: runners’ faces lap after lap, high fiving, cheering each other on. That's the glue. It's what let everyone belong without anyone forcing it.

I'll post separately about my own run. Spoiler: I didn't hit my goal.

For now, Season 2 of FAR Ubud starts. And I'm already planning a community challenge that will make you run far. No pressure 😎

Terimakasih Indonesia. Kami tunggu kabar baiknya because, we need it right now 🙏🏼❤️🤍🇮🇩 Semoga kewarganegaraan saya dapat diproses secepatnya agar saya bisa berbakti tanpa rintangan 🙏🏼🙏🏼
