hi my name is sophia! and i own a coffee cart in orlando fl! ⭐️ let me reintroduce myself!!!🩵
At the beginning of this year, I found myself in a job that was slowly taking the joy out of everything. I’d always had big dreams, but it never felt like the “right” time to chase them.

Until one small moment when I decided to take the risk and see what could happen.
That small moment changed my life.
When I was 16, I lost my mom to her battle with addiction. Losing her taught me how quickly life can change and how much the small moments really matter. The memories I hold closest aren’t the big ones. They’re her teaching me how to make a pot of coffee, long drives, and mundane days spent together.
Paperback was born from the idea of creating a space where people could make those kinds of memories with the people they love.
My dad agreed to build the cart while I dreamed up everything else. That alone meant more than I can explain. I almost lost him to similar circumstances, and for 10 years of my life we didn’t have a relationship. Getting to build this dream together has made Paperback’s story one of second chances, restoration, hope, and creating a life worth living.

Then I quit my job, we launched, and somehow… all of you showed up.

Weekend after weekend, you’ve come for coffee, brought your friends, made memories, and turned my little dream into something bigger than I ever imagined.

Paperback has never been about how many coffees we sell. It’s about the people. The friendships. The community that rallied behind a bigger dream.

Sometimes I can’t help but think my mom sent you all to me, her own little way of getting to be part of the community that Paperback has become.

There will never be adequate words for how thankful I am that you’ve chosen to be here for something that has become so, so much more than coffee.

I love you all!!!

I’m making a conscious effort not to let my poor experience sour the joy of making a financial investment in growing my business and scaling our production capabilities to better serve our wholesale partners.

We chose this roaster because we needed an electric alternative, as the city wouldn’t approve a larger propane setup at our current space. And tbh, the idea of a more environmentally friendly roaster resonated with me.

I will continue to remain honest and transparent about my experience in hopes to give other roasters the courtesy I wish I had before we started down this path. For our specific circumstances, I think we made the best choice with the information we had access to.

Anyways, here’s what it looks like to send $20,000 to a foreign bank. Pretty anticlimactic if you ask me. 😂

The Blueberry Dusk Latte from @fablecoffee.co — a white chocolate latte topped with blueberry cold foam 😋☕️💙

This was such a delicious and beautiful latte, and I felt like a mermaid while drinking it!! 🧜🏽‍♀️✨

I also tried out a bag of the “Deep Sea” beans from @leatherbackroasters and absolutely LOVED them! 🫘 They had tasting notes of cocoa, caramel, and brown sugar — all of my favorite flavors in one! 🙌🏽

Speaking out can feel like a weight lifted one moment and then feelings of anxiety/oversharing the next. However, I think the responses I’ve received speak for themselves. All I can do is what I wish someone else would do for me, which is share my experience and look out for others in my industry. It’s good to see some meaningful connections and good coming from a really unfortunate situation.

Mo money mo problems. I’m not just out here to complain or slander a particular company, rather I’m sharing my experience because it seems nobody is talking about this publicly. I just want my roaster and to be excited about the largest investment we’ve made in our business to-date.

Is that too much to ask?

UPDATE: They have sent 1 image of the roaster, after much difficulty. I believe this post helped to escalate the matter and get forward motion on the situation. Thank you to everyone who’s gotten involved and helped us get progress initiated!!

we’re coming up on 1 year since my husband unexpectedly lost his full-time corporate graphic/web design job just before the holidays. that’s 1 year since we both started working full-time at @leatherbackroasters.

i started this account to grow our reach, share my real thoughts and perspective, and hopefully find community online. truly—thank you so much for following along, thank you for buying coffee. it’s not perfect or easy but we are so lucky and fortunate to work full-time at the business we’re building.

Even if you’ve been doing something for years, it can be tricky to convince your brain you’re legit—when you’re your own worst critic! But when I look back, I see how many times I figured out what I needed to know and made it happen. And my track record says everything I need to trust that I’ll keep doing that.

Also, nobody’s got it all figured out all the time.
