When rising high school senior María O. came to Philadelphia from Tampico, Mexico, she was looking to explore career paths in the fashion business. What she learned was a crash course in real-world venture creation! "Standing up to speak in front of people you've never seen before was nerve-wracking, but as the days went on, we became this tiny little family. For our project, my team and I created a sustainable, affordable and inclusive jewelry brand called Helumana... We created prices based on how much we spent on labor and materials while still gaining enough revenue. This project felt very realistic, including prices, yearly gains and an ask to the sharks at the end." - María O. Working alongside her teammates, María helped design, cost and pitch Helumana, a sustainable, affordable jewelry line complete with material research, labor cost breakdowns and revenue projections for a live shark-tank style pitch. 🦈 Our pre-college programs empower young minds to step outside their comfort zones, master collaborative teamwork and build real confidence before making their college decisions. During his time at the Close School, Mason Cohen, BA ’23, chased every experience. He leveraged pitch competitions, real estate co-ops and incubator residency at the Baiada Institute to build real-world momentum for his company while finishing his degree. His biggest takeaway for students? Don't wait until after graduation to get started. "Start something outside of class. It could be a company, a development project, or a job - anything that gives you the opportunity to learn and apply it immediately in real life." — Mason Cohen, BA ’23, President of The Cohen Company Limited LLC Read Mason’s full Q&A feature, link in bio! #Drexel #DrexelUniversity #CloseSchool #Entrepreneurship #StudentEntrepreneur #EntrepreneurshipEducation #DrexelDragons

A little full-circle moment 🎓🐉 I had the chance to return to Drexel’s Executive DBA program, this time as an alum, to speak with current students as they prepare to begin their dissertation journeys. And if you know anything about this program, you know “prepare” is doing a lot of work in that sentence 😅 The dissertation process can be exciting, stressful, frustrating, rewarding, and sometimes all of those things in the same week. It was great to share a few lessons from my own experience, talk through some of the things I wish I had known earlier, and hopefully help make the road ahead feel a little more manageable. I am really grateful to Dr. Teresa Harrison for the invitation and to Dr. Adam Yoder for joining the conversation. Both were important parts of my own journey through the program. Going from student, to graduate, to coming back and giving something to the next group was pretty special. Always happy to support the Dragon family. 🐉💙💛 #DrexelUniversity #DrexelLeBow #ExecutiveDBA #DoctoralJourney #dissertationlife

"This is exactly what graduate-level education is supposed to be." At the Close School, learning happens way beyond the classroom - over coffee, in the incubator and in one-on-one conversations with professors who are actual business owners themselves. Doug Ulrich (MS ’25) shares how working directly with faculty like assistant teaching professor John Wilson completely shifted his graduate program experience. His advice for new students? Don't just show up to class and leave. Connect with your professors, ask questions about your own ideas and tap into the Drexel network while you're here.
