“There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all does not cry: ‘MINE!’” - Abraham Kuyper

Konnichiwa.

Japan and my family are now one.

We met incredible people, reconnected with friends, and experienced moments only God could orchestrate.

Within our first 48 hours, we ran into a friend from church at the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. We’d never met in America, but somehow connected 7,000 miles away in the morning, after a 7:45am breakfast of raw sushi. I wasn’t sure if I was dreaming or if it was actually happening. Since there is photo evidence, I now believe it was in fact real life.

Anchor made its debut in Japan, and our glove was worn at the Tokyo Dome by Tokyo Giants and MLB legend Koji Uehara during the Allstar game.

We ate cow tongue, raw eggs, and some of the best meat we’ve ever had at what may be the most exclusive restaurant we’ve ever and probably will ever step foot in. Unforgettable experience. Incredible people.

We rode the bullet train (they’re fast) to visit Kyoto. Stunning views. We saw a great friend from NGU for the first time in nearly 20 years, met his beautiful family, ate sushi from a conveyor belt, and picked up right where we left off.

We frequented the 7Eleven next to our hotel multiple times each day. If you don’t know about Japan’s 7Eleven, please look it up. They’re incredible and we took full advantage of their treats.

We shared countless taxi rides. Few of the drivers spoke much English, and we spoke even less Japanese, but somehow we always found a way to communicate. I’d like to think they enjoyed it, though we will probably never know. What I’m certain of is that they all went home and googled what the word “cowboy,” means.

What a trip?! What an experience?! We’ll never get over it.

We’ve learned to live with expectancy. Not because we deserve it, we don’t, but because we’ve seen God move too many times to be surprised anymore.

A year ago this week I packed my little Ford Ranger with a few boxes and bags and drove to Nashville, TN. What was only supposed to be a one semester internship turned into two, then into a tour, continual freelance work, and a second tour later this year. It has been nothing short of breathtaking, and it’s hard to find words to describe it.

The Lord has been so faithful, and it has been so good to see his provision, guidance, and grace this entire time. There have been numerous times where my hands are just open before the Lord seeking his will, because there was nothing else I could do.

What had made my time in Nashville so awesome are the people. Long Hollow welcomed me and made me feel so connected in a short amount of time, that it’s hard to think I’ve only known some of these people for only a year. I am so grateful for their friendship, counsel, and joy they have shown me!

So here’s to the people, the place, the work, the good times, and the hard times. I’m so looking forward to more time in Nash and for what the future holds!
