A look back at the Nazara Film Screening + Photography Exhibition 🎬🧡 @cinema.73 x @cosydesiclub On Saturday, we brought together film, photography and community for Nazara at @roots_of_respect. The evening brought together work by South Asian creatives across borders, sharing different perspectives on place, identity and memory. A huge thank you to every filmmaker and photographer who trusted us with their work, to everyone who helped bring the evening together, and to everyone who came down and spent the night watching and chatting with us. 🤎 Swipe through for a few moments from the night, alongside the full Nazara programme. Earlier this year, after missing the early namaz at my Jamatkhana, I ended up at the outdoor Eid prayer in Washington Square Park, my first in over six years of living in New York. Nervous to be attending alone, I brought my camera with me for company and left with some of my favorite photographs i’ve ever taken. This past weekend, I had the chance to exhibit these photos alongside an incredibly talented group of photographers and filmmakers. It was such a joy to meet so many passionate, creative people and learn from their experiences❣️ Huge thanks to @cosydesiclub and @cinema.73 for curating this beautiful exhibition and allowing me to be a part of it! Super excited to be showing work as part of ‘بين هنا وهناك’ at PaIestine House @palhouseldn - opening this Saturday at 1pm 🤍 ‘bring me a thought I can act on’, a film diary I made last year, will be playing on loop in the space during opening hours 9am-9pm. Also very very honored to be showing ‘بيوتنا المقلوبة’, a new series of maklouba installations I’ve been working on. The exhibition will be on view from the 11th-18th of April. Private view will be on the 11th of April - Everyone is welcome! Doors open at 1pm. Documentaries and films by me, Lena Mohammed and Safa Zanad will be shown at 4-5pm followed by a collective discussion with us. To end the night, there will be a oud performance by Rudy Youssef at 7pm. Hope to see you all there! Tickets available on PaIestine House’s website/link in my bio. I AM CELEBRATING FINISHING SEASON 1 OF THE DEMON FIASCO DANCE CLASS I STARTED IN LONDON👺👹😈🎉🎊🤟🏻👽🐍 After a long time of teaching so many different styles I decided to add something new to my list of classes, NEW FOR THE ENTIRE DANCE COMMUNITY And I knew that this would be something that SLOWLY but SURELY start to grow with encouraging dancers to step out of their comfort zone and break from all the rules and boundaries they’ve places on themselves during their dance journey/career. I will explain what these classes are in another video/post🔮! But for this post specifically is for every single dancer who has come and put their trust in me and this style, who has shown me a vulnerable side to them, who has step out of the box, who’s poured there heart into this and tried something new, I want to say today I want to CELEBRATE you , APPRECIATE you and THANK ALL OF YOU!🥺🤟🏻🫂🥀 you guys are the first who has joined this community or even just one class, you guys are the first to understand and resonate with me and I want to thank all of you for the magical time that season 1 was🥺👺 season 2 will be getting more intense and more out of the box so I cannot wait to see who comes next or who will carry on joining and encouraging more dancers to release energy with us🥺 these classes are never about if it’s in your comfort zone or not it’s about purely existing in a safe space and doing things you typically wouldn’t in any other space. I created this for YOU❤️‍🔥 season 1 was just the starter to prepare you guys for MORE. WHAT THE STUDENTS GAINED FROM THE CLASS! 👀👑🇲🇾 Sofia’s Spiritual Sensual Heels class was a transformative journey that taught the students more than just heel technique. It was a deep exploration of body awareness and energy flow, helping them connect with their inner selves. 👑 They learned how to align their chakras, bringing balance and fluidity to their movements. This wasn’t about perfecting steps; it was about understanding how to move with intention, allowing the music to guide them and expressing their energy through every motion. 🌬️ Sofia emphasized the power of stillness, teaching students how to embrace pauses between movements, making these moments just as powerful as the actions themselves. ✨ Dancing in heels introduced a unique challenge that helped the students strengthen their control and focus. 👠 Rather than rushing through the movements, they were encouraged to slow down and truly feel every step. With time, the heels became tools for self-discipline, allowing the dancers to master precision and use their bodies more purposefully. Through this, they learned that sensuality isn’t about being flashy or quick, but about moving with care, control, and connection to the rhythm 🪷. By the end of the class, the students had not only improved their technical skills but also gained a stronger sense of self-confidence and empowerment.
