For me, it’s my heart shaped glasses. For this week’s podcast guest, Leslie Jesperson, it’s a pair of GLITTER BOOTS. 👢

And apparently, there’s an actual name for this!

It’s called an ACTIVATOR, and I had NO idea I’d been using one for years. 😂

This week on the Money Hungry Mama podcast, Leslie taught me how something as simple as putting on a pair of glasses, your favorite lipstick, or a piece of jewelry can help you step into a more confident version of yourself.

But that wasn’t even my favorite part of our conversation!

Leslie also shared how she landed a HUGE speaking opportunity by putting herself in the right room, sending ONE Instagram message, and taking a chance on herself.

And it reminded me of something I say ALL THE TIME.

Stop waiting for someone to pick you. Start putting yourself in a position to be picked! 👏

Because mama, you can have all the dreams in the world, but at some point, you’ve got to put yourself out there!

And remember, the win isn’t always getting the YES. Sometimes the win is simply having the courage to TRY.

If you finished chemo and lost your job in the same week and you didn’t feel an immense amount of grief, loss, and identity crisis, I wouldn’t believe you. I was not prepared for how hard these things would be to go through.

I felt these all at once with no warning. What I’ve learned through my experience with cancer is that life is short, anything can happen at anytime, and you will never be ready for what life throws at you. Everyone expects you to bounce back after cancer and to be honest, that just won’t happen. So I’m taking my time and I’m not feeling guilty about it. I do not have it all figured out but what I do know is that I’m trying my best to start again.

If you get anything from this post let it be this. Your job is not your identity. You’re not behind. You don’t need to bounce back after cancer. If you’re in a season of loss, it’s not wasted time. Just another reminder that you’re in a new season of finding yourself again and that can take as much time as you need it to. 💛

“Being normal is bullshit.”

Her most expensive mistake was trying to be cheap.

Twice. Both bad enough that they’re under NDA.

Leslie Jesperson has been paid to be on stage since she was nine years old.

She’s been a full-time entrepreneur for 10, and she’ll tell you straight that only the last two years have actually been successful, because in between she lost every client she had during COVID and went and got a job.

So when she talks about what actually moves a business, she’s not theorizing.

Three things from this one:

Going cheap isn’t saving money if you’re the one doing it at your hourly rate.
Stay in your lane and pay for the rest.

Before you write the keynote, you have to be able to tell your story without your voice cracking. She does the somatic work first, because a room can feel it when you haven’t.

...and the sales model she won’t give up: one to many.

She takes two one-on-ones a year.

Everyone else goes through a cohort, because the cohort becomes the community, and the community is what makes people finish.

Her advice to anyone stuck: fear is just something happening in your body.

Stop letting it make you freeze.
