Publi* Collab. Happy birthday ✈️🎂 @320explainair

You’re starting your aviation journey and finally find an app that matches the way you learn best.

It prepares you for:

* MCC
* Type Rating
* LPC/OPC
* Command upgrade simulator assessments
* Airline simulator assessments

You can also use it to refresh your knowledge of normal procedures if you haven’t flown for a while. It covers key points for each phase of flight, as well as abnormal and emergency situations, the kind of scenarios we face in our simulator sessions every six months.

One of the things I found most challenging during my A320 type rating was the amount of information we were given all at once and not knowing how to manage it effectively.

Having an app like this would have made a world of difference. It guides you to the relevant sections of the FCOM, FCTM, QRH, company manuals and other references where you can find information about each system and its potential failures.

Highly recommended! A huge thank you to 320 Explainair for making the learning process feel so much easier. ✈️❤️

Your office just happens to have wings. ✈️🧽

When you’re starting your aviation career in a 702 or 703 operation, the job is about more than just flying.

On your days off from flying, you might be cleaning the aircraft, organizing the hangar, or getting the airplane ready for its next mission. Unlike flight school, there isn’t always someone else doing the work behind the scenes.

Think of the hangar as your office and the aircraft as your desk. Keep it clean, organized, and professional. It’s a reflection of you, your work ethic, and the operation you represent.

That’s part of being a professional pilot, too. 👩‍✈️

🚨 Your flight hours aren’t the only thing getting you hired.

I used to work in HR for an international restaurant company, where I handled hiring for 7 locations and helped with U.S. expansion. I reviewed A LOT of resumes and cover letters.

Then I became the applicant myself and learned how that experience applies to aviation.

Here are 9 things that can take your first pilot application from “okay” to “I want to interview this person”:

1️⃣ Put your flight hours near the top. Make total time, PIC, multi, IFR, etc. easy to find.

2️⃣ Don’t mention your age. Being young doesn’t need to be a headline.

3️⃣ Find a mentor. Have an experienced pilot proofread your application.

4️⃣ Cut the fluff. Hiring managers are busy. Be clear, concise and specific.

5️⃣ Make your contact info professional and easy to find. And please… use a professional email address. 😂

6️⃣ Read the job posting. Use relevant keywords and phrases from it. Show them you understand what they’re looking for.

7️⃣ Have references ready. Ask permission before listing someone.

8️⃣ Skip unrelated hobbies. Focus on experience that demonstrates leadership, teamwork, CRM, communication and decision-making.

9️⃣ Follow up once, professionally. Don’t bombard them. You can absolutely talk yourself out of the candidate pool by becoming annoying.

Your goal isn’t to write the longest cover letter.

It’s to make the employer think:

“Let’s talk to this person.” ✈️

Save this for your next aviation application.

Officially at 1500 jet hours 🙌🏼
********
A tiny four-digit code representing a pretty massive chapter.

1500 hours of chaos, caffeine, checklists, and “wait… I actually get to fly airplanes?”

These last 500 hours have taught me patience, acceptance and resilience : surviving through the uncomfortable seasons without needing to rush through them 🧘🏼‍♀️

✈️ Survey flying looks pretty straightforward from the outside: plan the flight, fly the lines, collect the data, repeat.

But on the road? Flexibility becomes one of your most important skills.

Here are a few things you quickly learn to adapt to as a survey pilot:

🏠 BEING AWAY FROM HOME
And I don't mean just being gone for a few days. You can get stuck somewhere for weeks — sometimes even months. If weather isn't cooperating, you may not be able to relocate the aircraft, which means you're staying put until Mother Nature says otherwise.

⏳ DELAYS & UNEXPECTED DOWNTIME
Weather, maintenance, aircraft issues, operational restrictions and project delays can completely change your schedule. Survey flying requires patience because sometimes there is simply nothing you can do but wait.

⛽ NOT HAVING EVERYTHING YOU NEED AT THE AIRPORT
Fuel? Maybe. Maintenance? Maybe. A rental car? Maybe not. A place to stay? Hopefully. 😂
Working remotely means adapting to whatever resources are available at the airport you're operating from.

👥 WORKING WITH NEW PEOPLE
Every project can mean a different combination of pilots, data analysts, clients, airport personnel and local contacts. Learning how to communicate and work effectively with new teams is a huge part of the job.

📋 WHEN THE PLAN DOESN'T GO TO PLAN
NOTAMs, FIR restrictions, airspace limitations, weather, denied approvals and project requirements can all change the mission.

And if you're doing bathymetric survey, there's another layer of complexity: sun angle + tidal windows + weather + project requirements all have to line up. Sometimes the window you need to collect the data simply doesn't exist when you want it to.

So yes, there's a LOT of flight planning involved in survey aviation — but there's just as much re-planning.

One of the biggest lessons survey flying has taught me:

You don't just need to know how to fly the airplane. You need to know how to adapt when the plan changes. ✈️

There was a time when the sky was just a dream.
I remember looking up and wondering what it would feel like to be up there, not knowing how many years, challenges and sacrifices would come between that thought and this moment.
Today, I sit in this cockpit and sometimes still have to remind myself that I’m living the life I once wished for.
And this is only the beginning. 🛩️🤍
