Tonight, the night before my birthday, as I sat outside around the fire with Chris and the babes, playing “the animal game” and watching them dance under the spotlight of the moon, I couldn’t help but think of my own parents the night before I was born.

I can vividly recall each “night before” for my own babies, and now how each of their birthday’s is such a moment for both me and Chris.

It’s wild to me right now in this moment to think about one of my own tiny humans turning 38, but I’m sure my mom and dad felt the same way when I was little.

Something about this summer (this year?) is making time feel like the ultimate brain warp. Time has been marked by something different ever since having kids and it’s constantly making me do a double take (like I can’t keep up with it?). My own birthday sneaks up on me every year.

All this to say, thinking about my parents tonight I got emotional (who’s surprised?!). I’m so thankful for both of you and all that you’ve done for me from the moment I was born (almost) 38 years ago until now. Unbelievably, overwhelmingly, wholeheartedly thankful. I’m thankful for the days that no doubt felt long when y’all were IN IT raising the four of us to the days that you supported me from afar and trusted that California was where I was supposed to land (HOW DID YOU MAKE THAT COLLEGE DROP OFF?!) to these days and your new(ish) roles as Shishi and Papa where my own babies get to feel your love and magic. And every little and big thing in between - of which there have been many. I love you both so very much. Celebrating both of you tomorrow too… I can only imagine that the birthdays of your babies will forever be a moment for you, too. 🥹💛✨

Also fully aware that it’s nearing midnight - and likely the worst time to post for any sort of algorithm lol - but I fell asleep snuggling the big kids so this all tracks. Brain dump long caption being posted at a random time don’t have the odds ever in my favor, but I have a feeling for this one… the people who are supposed to see it will ☺️

Yesterday was a good day and I feel so so so thankful for every bit of it. Honestly, it was also a hard day in some respects. We’re IN IT with the babies, and have tiny humans that we’re in charge of, so there are some hard hard moments that happen every day, regardless of whether or not it’s a “special” day.

With that said, I love a holiday. Sign me up for a celebration. Give me an excuse to come together with loved ones. Just count me in.

Also realizing that you’re in charge of your tiny humans experience of said holiday… that’s a serious responsibility. We are their magic makers. Thankful that we’re making magic with this community and surrounded by loved ones. It makes my heart so so happy and I don’t think I’ll ever get over how lucky we are.

Thankful for every single one of you. You are someone’s magic. You fill someone’s heart. Whether you feel it right now or not… I need you to know that you do. Hold onto that.

I usually start the year off with this quote. This year, I decided to start early and with it.

This quote by William Wordsworth, has been a favorite of mine for years. It sounds so simple but for a lot of us it’s the hardest part.

On this day, fourteen years ago, we set off on a two month cross-country road trip to shoot Finding Kind. Little did we know it would change not only our lives, but the lives of countless others.

We feel so fortunate to have been on the forefront of starting a serious conversation about the lasting impacts of bullying, and even more fortunate to be the leading non profit committed to creating change. The conversations that were started on that road trip led to what is now our Kind Campaign Assembly Program.

Kind Campaign has impacted millions of people all over the world. There have been nearly 3,000 Kind Campaign Assemblies to date, with almost 700 Founders Assemblies led by the two of us. It’s not often that we pause to look back at how much ground we have covered because we’re constantly looking ahead and trying to reach as many people as possible, but today is always a reminder of those beginning days. The two of us, our moms, and Christopher our beloved cinematographer. In a minivan. On a road trip.

We’re so very thankful for all of you for your continued support, for coming on this journey with us, and for believing in the power of kindness.
